Set in a fantasy-roman/middle ages-world.

The days as a slave were hard. I had to work all day long and only got a few hours of sleep. I don't get much food. Just enough to stay alive. The clothes I wear are torn and dirty.

My former master was a horrible person. He had twelve slaves, me included. He beat us when we did something wrong or just when he felt like it. I still have the scars on my back.

Fortunately I had a good friend who was also a slave, (f/n). We helped each other through tough times and we always talked about our dreams. Where we were going to live and start a family and that we'd remain friends for the rest of our lives.

The last thing will never come true though. (f/n) died from exhaustion and I was all alone. Of course there were the other slaves but they didn't like me. They always said I was weak and that they had to do all the hard work because I couldn't. And it was true.

(f/n) wasn't the only one that died that day. A part of me died too and it made me weaker. What I saw that day made me lose all hope in humanity.

Today I was finally going away from my master. He bought a replacement for me and he sold me to a slave trader who picked me up early in the morning.

He put on shackles and ordered me to go into the carriage. When I entered I saw a few more slaves sitting on the hard wood between boxes with goods. I greeted them but they just kept staring at the floor and ignored me. So much for a good conversation and I sighed mentally.

After a few long hours of a boring ride with introvert people we finally came to a stop. I didn't really know what to feel. On one side I was very happy to see a bit of the world and that I was away from my former master. But on the other side I was still a slave and someone would buy me. Maybe an even more horrible master.

"Get out of the carriage, now!" The trader said and we obeyed.

The sun was shining bright in the blue sky. A few birds flew over. I hadn't seen the sky for years. All around me were people talking and children running around. I was on a big square and there was a big market. Slave trading is a common thing in my country so no one did something about it.

"That one." I heard a man say who was pointing at me.

The slave trader attached a chain to my shackles and gave me to the man. He was big and had a scary look on his face. He handed over the money and pulled the chain which made me almost fall forward.

He dragged me across the streets until we arrived at a big castle. The gates were opened and another man appeared. He was skinny and long and had a mustache.

"I will bring you to your new master so you can start immediately." With that he took the chain and led me into the castle to a room. "This is were the prince lives. You will be his new slave. Don't speak to him unless asked." He knocked on the door. "It's Albert."

"Yes, you can come in now."

Albert opened the door and introduced me. "This is your new slave, your royal highness."

"Please Albert, just call me (c/n). Oh and don't say the word slave. I prefer servant." The prince said. He was a very handsome man and nicely dressed.

"I'm sorry, your royal highness."

The prince sighed. "You can leave now, Albert."

With that he left and the prince and I were alone.

"So what's your name, miss?"

"I-I am uhm... (y/n), your royal highness."

"Don't you have a last name?"

"No, I don't."

He looked at me for a few seconds with those beautiful eyes. "How come such a fine woman is a slave?"

I blushed and looked to the ground. "My village was raided and they turned every child to a slave. That was quite a long time ago."

"Ah, I see." he paused for a moment and scanned me again. "Why don't you take a bath and change your clothes. First of all I will remove those ugly shackles. They must hurt, don't they?"

He walked over to me and freed me with the key Albert left on the table next to the door. There were red circles around my wrists. The prince then led me to the slave, or as he likes to call servant chambers.

"Hello master." An old woman said. "Is this the new one?"

"Yes, this is (y/n)." With that he walked away.

The woman scanned me and nodded approvingly. "Well, I am Maddie, the head of all servants. I will show you around the chambers and make you ready for your first day. So chop chop." She gestured me to follow her.

Maddie showed me my room and after that we walked to the dining room which was only for the servants of course. There was also a living room for when we didn't have to do anything.

During the tour Maddie told me what the rules were. The most obvious one was obeying orders. Another rule was not leaving your bedroom after 10 p.m. We also weren't allowed to go to attic. And there were many more rules we had to follow.

We finally arrived in the bathroom. Maddie said one last thing before she left. "And watch out for the King."

I nodded and started to clean myself. I hadn't had a warm bath in a long time so this felt extra nice. When I was finished I put on the new clothes Maddie left behind. It was a white dress. I made a crown in my (h/c) hair and as a finishing touch I put in my golden earrings which my mom gave me when I was little. I hid them for my former master. He would have sold them, no doubt.

I headed for the room of the prince and knocked on the door.

"Yes, come in." I heard a voice say.

My first day will start now.
