"Please take your seats!"
Ms.Walters was the beginning of the whole entire relationship between Devon and I.
"We have a new student from Austin, Texas joining us. His name is Devon."
Devon was a tall skinny boy. He had chocolate brown hair with brown eyes. He wore red pants with a grey swoop-neck top. I thought that he was a bit on the attractive side but also very mysterious.
"Look at that guy." Said Miller in a cocky attitude.
Miller was a good friend of mine and was always there for me. He was also my table partner. It was great to have someone there, but he just didn't understand when I needed to be alone like almost every teenage girl had to be at some point.
"He's not that bad looking."
"Devon, you can sit next to Grace over there. She is in the floral top."
"What!"
"Grace! Have a little respect for our new student."
I slumped down in my seat with a red and embarrassed face. The kids around me started to chuckle.
"I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to sit next to the new kid either." Devon revoked.
"I didn't meant it like that! I, I,...I just wasn't paying attention." I was so embarrassed so I took out my book and started to pretend to read my '13 Reasons Why' book.
"Ah, I see you like literature. I did until I figured out that some books don't make sense and why waste my time on any book when there is the internet."
His voice was deep and very manly. I didn't know what to think of him.
"My name is Devon. Devon James Calum." He put out his hand to shake mine. I shook his hand and replied,
"Grace. Grace May Phillips. So what made you come to the small town of Barney?"
"My parents didn't pay their bills and needed a new job."
"I'm sorry about that." I replied.
"I don't need your sympathy."
I felt bad and I thought that was a little rude. "Well that was a little harsh don't you think?"
"No, I haven't even started."
I didn't like how he talked to me now. I thought he was rude but yet still attractive.
"Devon, you need to share a book with Grace so now you and Grace will be table partners." Said Ms.Walters.
"Who will I be table partners with then?" Asked Miller.
"I am putting you with Ellie."
Ellie was a girl that had brown hair that never was combed and was very greasy. She was the type of person who never had a table partner and probably never would of had one if it wasn't for Devon. Miller rolled his eyes and got up and sat next to Ellie.
"So, what is with this whole shy thing going on?" Devon asked.
"What? Nothing! I'm not shy...just...bashful."
"Same thing."
I wish he didn't know what 'bashful' ment.
I handed him a text book for English and told him to do pages 10-14. He kept glancing up at me at each page, but I didn't really mind it. Why should I? It's one of the first boys that ever did that.
"Done."
"No way!" I said as I looked up.
"Hey," he said. "I work hard and enjoy school!"
