His mom pulled up and Miller opened the back door to his car for me. I stood there and looked at the seats for a few seconds and then got in. He closed the door and got into the passenger seat.
"Is it okay if we leave his car in your drive way?" Katy asked.
"Yup...that's fine." I said while looking at her.
"Baby...let me see." She said while putting out her hand for Miller.
"Well do touch it..." He whined. I giggled a little, because it was funny to see him being the one whining and not me.
"How did this happen?"
Miller and I looked at each other and I quickly looked at the ground.
"We were running and I tripped and twisted it on the cement..." He grunted while saying those words that his mom actually believed. He made my mom believe too.
"Well, let's go to the hospital."
We drove to the hospital and brought him inside. I slowly walked in and I felt my eyes tearing up. I wiped my eyes before Miller and his mom could see and walked to the front desk. His mom checked in while we sat together in the waiting room. I was staring at the ground.
"Grace...are you okay?"
"Yeah...I'm only here for you," I looked up and smiled. He then put his arm around me and just sat there. "Are we...well.." I didn't know how to word it.
"Are we what?" He started to blush and looked at me.
"Well..." The words wouldn't come out.
"Are we dating? Is that what you're asking?"
I looked at the floor and started to blush as well. "Yeah...that's what I'm trying to ask."
"Well," he took in a breath and situated himself. "Are we?"
"I don't know...that's why I'm asking you,"
He bit his lip and then squeezed me between his body and arm. "Grace, will you be my girlfriend?"
I smiled and then looked at his mom and then him. "Yes I will," I smiled and he leaned towards me for a kiss. I stopped and looked around him and looked at his mom.
"She won't mind." He said,
I looked at him and smiled. We then did a quick kiss and stopped.
"Okay Miller, you're all set." She said while walking towards us.
"What are they going to do?" He asked.
She looked at us and then at him. She made an odd face and he looked at me and quickly took his arm off of me. I totally forgot that he had it around me.
She continued to talk, "Well, probably some x-rays and then a possible cast."
He grinned. "Will it hurt?" He asked.
"No, I don't think so."
We sat in the waiting room for about ten minutes until the doctor called us in. His mom was right. We took x-rays and then the doctor started to talk to us.
"Well," the doctor said. "You definitely didn't fall and twist your rist, because you broke your hand."
He quickly looked at me and then to the floor.
"Now tell me, what did you really do?"
We were both freaking out. I was scared and I could tell he was trying to think of something. I started to think of possible ways he could of done this.
"Fine," he said.
I looked up.
"We were climbing the big oak tree in Grace's front yard and I slipped and caught my hand in a branch and the branch broke and I landed on it. We didn't want to tell you because my mom doesn't like it when I climb trees."
They both starred at him and his mom put her hand on her head. "Miller, I told you that you were going to get hurt." Katy said.
"I know, I know, and I'm sorry."
"That sounds like the right explanation." The doctor said.
I let out a breath and did a little smile towards him. He looked at me and I mouthed the words 'thank you'.
"Now, let's get you in this cast." The doctor started to put cast on him and started to move his bones back into place. He was grunting and she was talking about how to take care of his hand. She then started to give him stitches where he needed them. She try explain to him everything that will happen. It took about ten minutes and she then started to talk to him and his mom about driving.
"Well," Katy said. "Let's get going."
"Am I able to drive?" Asked Miller.
"Not for two days." The doctor remarked. "Then you will be able too."
He nodded and hopped off the counter. We walked to the car and his mom dropped me off.
"Hey Grace," she called while I was getting out.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Can you drive Millers car to our house and then I can bring you home?"
I nodded and she handed me the keys. I got in his car and started the engine. When I got to his house I parked it and went inside.
"Thank you so much," she responded. Miller came from the living room and put his hand on my lower back and whispered in my ear. I nodded and smiled at him.
"We're going for a walk." Miller told his mom.
"Okay be back before i go to bed...I don't want Grace to be home late."
We both nodded and he opened the door for me. We walked out on the porch and he grabbed my hand with the one hand he had and we walked down the block.
"So...where are you taking me?" I asked and I sung our arms slightly.
"Some place special." He remarked while smiling.
"Where shall that special place be?" I asked. I heard was buzz and then my ringtone. It was my mom.
"Hello mom."
"Honey, where are you?"
"I'm with Miller...I'll be home before my bed time."
"Okay. Be safe...I love you.Bye."
Just like that she was gone.
"That was fast." He said.
"Yeah," I remarked. "She seemed to be rushing."
"Yup."
"Anyways...you should tell me where we are going." I said.
"No, I can't."
"Why?" I asked. "Don't be shy."
"I'm not being shy...and it's a surprise."
I smiled and we continued to walk. I had no idea where we were going. The beach was south of us...the playground is west of us...and the Diner is East of us...I didn't know what other place was in Barney. We were practically a deserted place.
"Close you eyes." He whispered.
"Why?" I asked while he stopped me in my tracks.
"Just do it." He said.
I closed them and he put one hand on my shoulders and the other hand over my eyes so I wouldn't peak.
"I'll guide you." He said. "Do you trust me?"
"Umm...yeah, I guess so." I responded.
He walked me about four feet and then stopped me. He took his hands off if me and walked to the front.
"Okay," he said. "Open."
