{April 2022}

Harrison and Carrie were woken by their kids running in their room with nerf guns. Adam now 11, led his siblings into their parents bedroom.

After Adam came Emma who was now 7, and Billie who was 4. Little Ben tagged along now 1 and a half.

"Get ready!"

Adam opened the door, revealing his parents laying in bed, clearly asleep. Harrison lay on his back and Carrie lay pressed against his side with an arm thrown over his body.

"Look at mom and dad cuddling," Adam said with a smirk crossing his face.

He, Ben and his sisters all cocked their weapons until they heard the click. "Hopefully mine doesn't jam this time," Emma whispered next to her brother.

The kids tried this on their parents before. But it unfortunately didn't work due to Harrison and Carrie being awake at the time of attack.

"Emma, Billie, and Ben, you guys ready?"

They all nodded. Storming over to their parents bed, the kids began to shoot them with foam bullets. "What the heck!?" Harrison muttered, watching a bullet hit him square in the forehead.

"You guys are under arrest!" Adam teased with a smile, jumping up on their bed.

Carrie now assessing the attack, yanked the covers from her husband and covered herself, leaving him to fend for himself. Emma and Billie moved closer, shooting their mom in the back. But when she buried herself under the covers and pillows, all attention was turned to Harrison.

Billie and Emma now climbed on the bed, sitting on Carrie's back. She helped the kids cause by turning to her side, pushing them off her and closer to Harrison.

"Hands up dad!" Adam teased.

Harrison didn't try to mess around for three of his kids were sitting no more than three feet away with loaded nerf guns. He put his hands up in surrender.

"Billie you watch him while we get mom."

She nodded, crawling over next to Adam and keeping an eye on her daddy. He had to sneeze, and was moving his arm towards his face when she pointed her little nerf gun in his face and said sternly, "don't move or I shoot."

Meanwhile, Adam and Emma were having trouble getting their mother out from under the covers. She had them bunched up in her fists, and it didn't help she was also laying on them.

Beside his wife, a sly smile crossed Harrison's face. She bailed on him earlier. "Hey Adam."

Adam pointed his gun towards Harrison. "I don't listen to a criminal."

"Do you want help getting mom?"

That got his attention. "Now we're talking."

"I'll get her for you," he said, moving towards Carrie. She lay on her stomach making it easy for him to put his hands on her hips. He moved his hands up her sides before tickling her. Sure enough, Carrie jumped, rolling on her side and allowing the kids to yank the covers off her.

"I surrender!" She admitted, not even daring to sit up.

"In the name of the Galactic Republic, I place you two under arrest," Adam said, unable to get it all out before laughing. "That's not how it goes dad."

"I am the Senate!" Harrison answered back.

"Not yet!"

With all of them laying on the bed laughing, nobody noticed little Ben left the room until now. "Adam where's your brother?"

"He was just here a little bit ago dad."

"Well where is he now?"

"I don't know!"

The worry was somewhat diminished when Ben rounded the corner. But some of it remained when they all saw him holding the fully loaded rocker launcher aimed at the five of them.

Ben giggled to himself as he walked closer. "Oh man," Emma whispered as her little brother marched even closer.

Billie, Emma and Adam ducked as best the could under the covers, leaving their parents exposed to the new threat. Carrie wrapped her hands around Harrison's waist, and pulled him close enough that she could shield herself with his body.

She laid under him with his head on her shoulder and both arms wrapped around him. "Thanks a lot Carrie."

"Hey, it's everyone for themselves."

Since Ben wasn't strong enough to climb up on his parents bed yet, he settled for walking around, still aiming the rocket launcher at his father.

"Hey Ben," he said quietly. "Wanna let daddy see that?"

"No!"

As their youngest made his way around the bed, Carrie tipped Harrison on his side so he was now laying in front of her. "Protect me, my knight in shining armor," she told him with a giggle.

"By protect you, you mean get shot for you?"

"Well yeah."

"Ben you should let daddy see that."

Before Harrison or anyone could say anything else, the rocket went launching by his face, barely missing the frame he'd made for Carrie for her 29th birthday.

"It's on kids!" He shouted, jumping out from under the covers. Carrie followed suit, beating him to the door. She squeezed past him, making him bump his elbow off the doorframe.

Bullets came flying past them as he followed Carrie down the stairs. Instead of running quickly down the stairs, she slid down the railing, beating him by a lot.

Harrison followed her through the entire house, and to the closet where most of the kids toys were kept. "Here!" A nerf gun was set in his hands.

As Carrie got up from grabbing her own, he realized for the first time that these were the automatic ones. All they had to do was hold the trigger and the gun would keep shooting.

The kids came down the stairs to an ambush from their parents. Once the kids saw the automatic guns, they scrambled back up the stairs. "Who's surrendering now?" Harrison asked as the retreated back up the safety of the stairs.

Harrison and Carrie continued to shoot them with foam bullets as they ran back up the stairs. Once the stairway was kid free and full of foam bullets, he gave her a high five. "Nice job."

He said it just a bit too soon. "GET THEM!"

The two of them saw Adam, Emma, Ben, and Billie at the top of the stairs with automatic guns of their own. "Let's go!"

Now it was Harrison and Carrie's turn to retreat. "We're going to be overmatched!"

"When are we not?" He asked with a smile.

She laughed. "Come on let's get them."
