Chapter 9

After spending four hours in my moms SUV with Jane up front and me and Harry in the back, we arrived at the College. We went to a long and boring orientation and got her room assignment. We dropped her stuff off in her empty room and got back in the car for a late lunch.

We aren't familiar with this area yet so we're just driving around looking for a place to eat.

Getting extremely bored I picked up my phone and opened up Instagram. I knew I shouldn't look and see if there are anymore comments under that picture but I found myself opening up Kate's page, ignoring my better judgment.

There were countless new comments that were just as terrible.

'Haven't seen her at school in a while, maybe she finally killed herself'

'Hopefully..'

'Maybe she can't face the people she betrayed.'

'I hope the cow starved herself, she needs to shed a few pounds.'

I locked my phone and threw it into my purse. I could feel my cheeks burning but surprisingly no tears came, I think I cried so much I just can't handle anymore tears.

I looked over at Harry, he was shaking his head at me. He must of caught me looking. He mouthed the word 'don't' at me.

"How about this cute little cafe?" my mom asked.

"Whatever, as long as I get some food." Jane complained as we pulled into and open parking space.

We walked into the small restaurant and took a seat at a booth. I slid in next to my mom and across from Harry.

The waitress came and took our drink orders and came back minutes later with them, including my unsweetened iced tea.

"I'm gonna miss you so much Jane." my mom said and reached across the table to hold her hands.

"I know mom." Jane said bored like, "You tell me this like every two minutes."

"I know because it's true." my mom got all teary eyed and had to use her napkin to dry her face.

"Don't cry mom, it's not like you'll never see me again."

"Yes but, you guys are growing up so fast." she squeaked and pulled me into a tight hug. My cheek was smashed against he shoulder, I could feel my lips pouting.

"Mom!" I complained and pushed her away, "Chill out would you? Jane can visit next weekend if she wants to."

"Of course I will, I'll miss you all too much." Jane said and locked her arms around Harry left one

"You better." he added.

The waitress came back and took our orders and was off once again. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, I can almost smell it now I'm so hungry.

We made more small talk that I soon fell out of. I lifted my phone once again and checked that picture. I don't know why I do this to myself but I can't stay away from it.

There was only one new comment:

'Cow? you think she's a cow?' my heart leaped thinking someone was finally standing up for me, but when I finished the comment I found that I was wrong, 'She's a whale!'

I should probably stop looking at this for good this time. I turned my phone off and stuck it back into my bag just as our food arrived.

My plate was set in front of me and I felt my mouth water. I reached for my burger opened my mouth to take a bite but stopped myself. I set it down and fiddled with a fry. Maybe those comments are right, I don't need to fill up on this greasy food.

"So Eliana how's school going?" my mom asked. My eyes met Harry's and he stared back raising his eyebrows as if saying, 'Go on'.

"Uh.. it's okay, you know the same." I spit out.

"Good, good. Hope your grades are staying up."

I nodded my head in response pulling off a piece of burger but leaving it aside to make it seem as if I took bites.

By the end of the meal everyone's plates were empty but mine. The waitress came back with the check.

"Any boxes?" she looked directly at me.

Making my mom look at my plate.

"Oh honey, you barely ate. Are you feeling okay?"

"You know, I think I still have that bug from Monday." I said poking the bun.

"Yeah why don't you get us one." she said to the waitress.

When we got back to the college we all got out of the car to hug Jane goodbye. She hugged my mom first who kissed her head repeatedly. I was next, we held each other and rocked side to side before letting go. She moved into Harry, they hugged for a few seconds then locked lips. I had to look away.

"Well bye you guys I'll miss you."

"Try to visit next weekend, you saved up plenty for a used car. Get on that okay?" My mom said. She never bought us cars for our sixteenth birthdays. Jane got a job in the mall when she was my age and saved up since in order to get her own.

We piled back into the car, I gave Harry the front seat and I sat behind him. We waved to Jane as we pulled out of the space and drove off. I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone so when my mom tried making conversation with me I kept my answers short and focused on the sunset, closed my eyes and fell asleep.

I woke up to a soft voice.

"Eliana?"

I opened my eyes to see Harry reaching across me to unbuckle my seat belt. I felt lightheaded most likely because the last thing I ate was a granola bar at eight in the morning.

"She doesn't look so good." my mom appeared at his side. I blinked a few times and pulled my bags strap over my head.

"I'm fine mom." I muttered.

"Maybe she's still sick, I'll carry you sweety." my mom said as I tried getting out.

"I've got her." Harry spoke up and lifted me bridle style before I even had the chance to object.

"I'm okay Harry seriously." I said squirming a little.

My mom went ahead and opened the door, stepping inside and disappearing into the kitchen.

"What? You don't enjoy this?" he asked with a grin. I rolled my eyes I was still tired so I rested my head against his chest.

We entered my room and he set me down softly onto my bed.

"Thanks Harry."

"Your welcome, get some beauty sleep... you need it." He joked.

"Jerk." I said but smiled.

He winked and went to the door.

"Oh, and by the way." he spun back aroun, "I'll be here first thing in the morning to drive you to school. It's getting a bit chilly." he said and left closing the door behind him.

I smiled to myself knowing that even though we can't be together we can still be good friends.

Boring chapter, I know. But I've been at a dance competition aaaaaaallll day! *cough cough* FIRST PLACE!!! *cough*

But maybe I'll update tonight! :)
