mortar

I smile at you to quash your doubt

But there it is, that dubious pout

And it's almost like someone turned the faucet on

That fake happiness is now long gone

As you turn away the tears start to stream

And my lungs release a silenced scream

I can't vent the pain out; my skin is steel

Time is supposed to help; these wounds never heal

I can let you in and give you all my trust

But you'll abuse that, ditch me, and leave me in the dust

So I'll just get my bricks and mortar

And make my tall walls even less shorter
