"Lyra is a harp-like constellation in the northern hemisphere."
Lyra packed away the last of her items, inhaling deeply as she threw the last bag into the storage compartment of her ship. Even though she was raised from birth to only know earthly customs and languages, nothing could prepare her for the day she had to say goodbye to her home planet, Fosnion. Saying goodbye to everything and everyone she knew and loved. Nothing prepared her for the lonlieness that planet earth would bring her.
Lyra was educated on earth's customs and cultures, trained in combat, and forceably submerged into a simulation of what earth would truly be like. Her mother and father embraced her tightly for the last time, knowing full well that the travel to earth was so dangerous, most never even made it there.
Warm liquid formed a path down Lyra's face as she said her last goodbyes, inevitable heading off into the unknown. She was born specifically to be sent to earth for research of the planet when she became of age. She looked back at her loved ones one last time before shutting the door to the ship, shooting out into the galaxy ahead of her.
This was it, "You were born for this." She whispered reassuringly to herself. With how fast the ship traveled, her estimated arrival time would be in six earth hours.
She closed her eyes, her skin changing from a shimmering pale green color, to porcelain. Her oversized black eyes shrunk down, becoming white with an icy blue iris. She ran her hands through her naturally sleek and shiny emerald green hair that stopped just above the small of her back. Lyra was small in height, thin, but well proportioned. She put her hands on the each side of the sink, her slender fingers tapping gently. Staring at herself in the mirror, she warmed up to the seemingly human appearance she was able to morph into.
Lyra opened her eyes to see that 5 hours of autopilot has passed and she was on the last legs of her lightyears of travel. The outline of the blue planet was slowly coming into sight, looking to bigger than a blueberry. She smiled to herself as she realized she had made it further than most of the explorers before her.
She felt the ship shudder before the red light in the cabin above her head started going off. Panicked, Lyra pressed every single button on the control board to try to gain control of the unstable ship. Her breaths ragged, the ship shook and shuddered harder, bursting through earth's atmosphere too quickly.
"No, no, no! Come on!" Lyra shrieked out as she pulled the emergency break with all of the strength she had, hoping that it would be enough for her to survive the crash she feared was coming. The lever the break was on snapped off, sending her tumbling backwards while grasping the lever.
Lyra closed her eyes and tensed every muscle in her body as the spacecraft smacked against tall trees, being tossed around like a billiard ball in a game of bumper pool. She watched as the ship made contact with the ground, breaking everything around her and throwing her out of the glass.
The sound of metal being peeled back and glass shattering was the last thing she heard. Her body slammed on the cold hard ground, bouncing from impact before scraping across the earth's crist below her. She felt all of the air escape her lings, her body feeling the sensation of being lit on fire before everything stopped and went black.
