Josh helped the girl carry her groceries up to the apartment, setting the bags down on the kitchen island. Josh hasn't been able to get Lyra off of his mind, even if it hasn't been a full day since he met her. There was something peculiar about the abnormally small woman, the way she talked and held herself, the way she had no idea about the most common things, like grocery stores and coffee. She was intriguing, she was beautiful, and Josh already had a soft spot for her.
Lyra mindlessly hummed as she darted around the kitchen, putting food items in cupboards and in the fridge while Josh just watched, listening to her melodic hums. It sounded unlike anything he has ever heard, and he wanted to hear it over and over. Lyra ran over and nudged Josh, smiling up at the happy man, "Hey Josh?" She said, her wide blue eyes radiating curiosity as she stared up at the stunning yellow haired man.
"Yeah?" He asked simply. She took in a large breath before playing with her hands, a nervous habit Josh noticed. "Is it normal to get an upset feeling in your tummy when you're around certain people?" She asked shyly. Josh swallowed thickly, "Well, yes. It can be a good or a bad thing. If the person makes you happy and you feel like that, that means you really like them." He explained, smiling at the innocence of the tiny girl in front of him. And for a split second, he wondered what it would be like to take that innocence away from her, to have her under him, screaming his name. He shook it off and rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "Oh, how do you know you like someone?" Lyra asked.
She looked down after asking, fiddling with her hands even faster, the butterflies in her stomach erupting into a storm. Josh chuckled, "Uh, um...well when you really like someone, you think about them a lot, sometimes so much that you get mad that you can't stop thinking about them. Just thinking about them can make you smile, and you ways want to be around them. When you're not around them you miss them a lot and just want them to come back." He said. She nodded, "Oh, thanks for telling me." She said not looking back up at him, instead walking back to sort through the rest of the grocery bags.
Josh took the hint that she definitely didn't think of him the same way he thought of her, but he couldn't be more wrong. Nobody ever told Lyra about love and courtship on earth back on Fosnion, but she certainly learned about it through Josh. "Josh? How long do you have to know someone before you like them? And when should you tell them you like them?" Lyra asked while stashing all of the plastic bags under her sink, walking back over to him.
"I believe you can start liking someome as soon as you meet them. Sometimes that happens, other times it can take a long time to realize you like them. Most people get nervous around the person they like, so they get too afraid to tell the person how they feel. Other people tell them right away." He answered for her.
"Have you ever liked someone as more than a friend? What was it like?" She asked in a small voice, feeling a tinge of jealousy as she asked, knowing that she definitely likes Josh already, which scared her but filled her with happiness all at once. He cleared his throat and looking into her eyes, "Yeah, I've liked someone before. It's fun, scary, exciting, and uh, yeah. It didn't work out with us, but it was nice to have someone to tell about my day and to do things together like go see movies and go on hikes with, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Me and her didn't work out, but that's okay. I know there's someone out there for me somewhere." He said, thinking of the girl in front of him as he said the last part.
"Cool, I think I like someone." She said, smiling while looking into the coffee colored eyes that twisted her stomach into nervous knots. He smiled and ruffled her hair softly, "You're strange...but in the best way. I like it." And they stayed like that, smiling and looking into eachother eyes before Lyra looked away, her cheeks flushing a flattering shade of pink that complimented her porcelain skin. And in that moment, they both knew they were in too deep.
