Josh was spending another sleepless night lying under the stars, his arms rested behind his head as he stared off at the small shimmering stars that filled the night sky. He gazed off into the vast openness of the galaxy above his head. He took in as much air as his lungs would allow, sighing it out contently.
This was his favorite way to spend his insomnia filled nights. Wondering what else was out there, knowing fully well that it was logically impossible for earth to have the only traces of intelligent life. Josh stayed this way for most of the night, overthinking every thing that's ever happened in his life. From birth until now, as the now famous drummer of a two man band he was in with his best friend.
A bright streak shooting across the sky broke him away from his thoughts. He tilted his head and squinted his eyes, whatever it was, it was too large to be a shooting star. Most people would just shrug it off as just that, a radiant shooting star, but from his countless nights stargazing he knew this was unlike anything he had ever seen.
Something about it seemed different, the beam came closer and closer, plummeting down faster with each passing second. The large round object came more into view before landing what seemed like a few miles down the road, Josh caught a glimpse of something bouncing up into the air before falling again.
He jumped up to his feet, rushing to his car. Something deep in his gut told him to go find out what happened and he followed the instinct without a second thought. He twisted the key, revving the engine to life, speeding off in the direction of the fallen unknown objects.
He drove around for what seemed like hours before finding a billowing tower of smoke coming through the thick trees of the forest. He parked his car and darted into the forest where the smoke was coming from, his breath hitching as the scene in front of him came into view.
A large, deformed hunk of metal and broken glass lined the forest floor, fallen branches all around. Josh rubbed his eyes, trying to make sure that this wasn't a dream or some cruel prank being played on him. The area around the crash site was too hot to explore, fire still raging around the broken pieced of metal in front of him.
He decided that this was the perfect time to roam the forest for anything else, anything else he could try to find out about the mysterious situation happening in front of his eyes. He walked around aimlessly, kicking his heels along the dense dirt below his shoes. In front of him was a long wide strip of the forest floor missing and pushed to the sides, giving off the look that something had been dragged through here.
He quickened his pace as he followed to the end of the freshly moved soil, imprints were left at the end of it, a small trail of small handprints were pressed into the wet earth. He ran, his eyes scanning all around him as he followed the handprints. He looked into the distance and saw a small figure laid out across the damp ground.
"Hey!" Josh called out "Can you hear me? Are you okay?" He said, swallowing thickly as he slowly approached the small limp body. A quiet whine erupted from the fragile looking girl.
