y/n sat up in bed. it was eleven by then. she heard the click to the door open. tyler entered with a bag in hand. she yawned sleepily, running a hand through her messy hair. tyler took a moment to admire her.
"where were you?" y/n asked, snapping tyler out of his trance.
"at the store."
"why?"
"to buy some stuff."
"for what?"
"it's a s u r p r i s e."
"and when is this surprise?" she asked.
"this morning." tyler spoke cheerily.
josh looked over at him. he loved to see tyler so happy. y/n rubbed her eyes before getting up. she grabbed some clothes and headed off the to bathroom.

"what are you doing?" josh asked quietly.
"y/n said a while ago that she really wanted to set up a swing in the forest. so..." he held up two ropes and a square of wood.
"very thoughtful." josh complimented. y/n came out a few minutes later in black leggings and a red and black twenty one pilots sweater.
"i'm ready." she said.
"k. let's go." tyler said.

"where are we going?" y/n asked as they grew farther from home.
"i told you. it's a surprise."
"fine." she said. despite the annoyed tone, y/n was really happy.

they passed tons of buildings and cars. colors zipped through the window.
y/n watched as the world seemed to fly by. tyler only admired y/n. the way her deep eyes scanned everything, taking in every detail.

he parked the car in front of the forest. "you gonna tell me what we're doing here yet?" she asked, getting out of the vehicle.
"nope." he replied.
they left the gravel road for the thick, green forest.

crunching of leaves and the singing of birds filled there ears. the sun peaked through branches of trees. roses blossomed from the ground at seemingly every angle. the colors that decorated the forest were nothing but gorgeous.

"this looks good." tyler said while looking up at a tree.
"so, what're we doing?"
"okay, so remember that time you told me you wanted to put up a swing in the forest?"
y/n laughed at the realization.
"yes."
"well, i kinda bought some stuff to make it."
he pulled two ropes and a thick piece of wood out of the bag.
"you're kidding." she said. it was a smol, but very thoughtful thing to do.
"so all i need to do is climb it and put the ropes up!" tyler said proudly. he was like a smol child, presenting a picture he drew to his parents.

tyler hung the two ropes over his shoulder. he looked the tree up and down before grabbing a branch and pulling himself up. the boy continued to tug and pull at numerous branches before reaching the top.
"need help?" y/n asked.
"nope. you're injured."
he tied one rope onto the wood, then the other a few feet away before climbing down. y/n sat on the grass as tyler tied the wood onto the ropes.

"are you sure it's not gonna fall?" she asked.
"of course. it's safe."
y/n climbed onto the seat. tyler gripped the ropes and pulled her back before letting go. she was scared for a second, but soon it was nothing but fun.

they admired the green forest that surrounded them. trees towered high and bushes were thick. birds sang as animals crawled. it was all so beautiful.

the two seemed to be lost in thought. tyler's mind went back to the first time y/n had told him about the forest she found refuge in. he remembered wanting to be there with her. to remind the girl that everything would be okay.

"down in the forest...we'll sing a chorus." y/n sang quietly, pulling tyler from his thoughts.
"hands held higher, we'll be on fire," he continued.
"singing songs that nobody wrote..." they both sang together. y/n giggled lightly.
"thank you." she said.
"for what?" tyler mused.
"for this...for all of it. thank you for saving me from the world and letting me feel like a princess. thank you for taking me from the abusive hell i once called home. thank you for being here."
