“Spencer, why were you planning on staying in tonight?”  Liam asked quietly so only I could hear.

“I had some important stuff I needed to do.”  I lied.  Well, it wasn’t technically a lie, talking to my boyfriend is kind of important.

“Spence, you know how I feel about him, and I feel like you are seriously wasting your time with him.  He doesn’t take good care of you and he only thinks for himself.”  I guess Liam could tell when I was lying.

“Liam, stay out of it.  You are my brother, not my dad, okay?”  I felt bad as soon as I said it.  “No, Liam I didn’t mean…”

“It’s okay Spence.  Trust me, I know I am not dad, and I honestly just want to see you be happy.  But I see no future for you and Preston with how he currently treats you.”

“He is good to me Liam.”

“How?  What was the last nice thing he did for you besides call you to make sure your plane landed safely in America?  Oh wait, you called him to notify him of your safe landing, and what was his response?  I think it went something like, ‘Oh, oh that’s great um, hey, I am kinda busy at the moment, call ya later, bye.’  Not a single, Oh good! I love you so much hon, I can’t wait to see your beautiful face again!”  Liam wasn’t lying.  I did call and Preston did seem a tad… preoccupied.  But he was really busy with basketball season and practice and stuff.

“Not everyone is as sappy as you big brother.”  I said back, trying to make light of the subject.

“That may be true, but when your girl calls that you haven’t seen in a while, you better pay good attention to her.  If you don’t, then you have got some serious commitment issues.”

“What are you saying?”  I asked, confused as to where Liam was going with this.

“Nothing I want to talk about here.”  Great.  I knew exactly what he was thinking.

“Preston did not cheat on me Liam.  He would never do that, it’s not like him.”

“You never know.”

“Yeah, well neither do you.  Don’t judge him until you actually know him.”

“I do know him sis, I went to middle school with him.  He hasn’t changed much since then based off of how he treats you.  He is the same scum bag player that waltzed around the halls back then picking up every girl he possibly could.  I bet you he had a secret girl the entire time and that’s why ‘Basketball practice’ was becoming more frequent.”

“Liam!”  I said that far too loud.  Everyone heard it and was now staring at me.  I was just a bit furious with my brother, but I couldn’t let the rest of the table know that.  We were enjoying such a lovely dinner together.  “Liam, I uh, I just wanted to make a toast to you and, uh, Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall.  For being on top of the world and staying so grounded.  You guys are such an inspiration.  Thank you.”  Everyone raised their various fountain drinks and all took a drink from them.

“I’m sorry Spence…we will talk later.”  He replied quietly while everyone resumed their various conversations.

“Yeah, fine.”  I replied.  I was done talking to him, so I turned to Niall, who was sitting quietly, just enjoying his pizza.
