"Your on in two." A man says poking his head into my dressing room while I put mascara on. I stand up and go to the full length mirror. Smoothing down the fabric, I hear someone come into my room.
"Hello Anniebell." Josh's voice whispers when I see his reflection in the mirror behind mine. A smile creeps across my face. I feel his lips kiss my cheek...then I turn around and kiss him right on the lips.
"We have to go sadly." I say after. He nods and we walk hand in hand to the place you go before you go on stage. I hear our names being announced. The lights blind me as I walk out with Josh. The music that's blaring mixes with the crowds cheers. Josh and I dance a little before we hug Ellen and sit down.
"Hello you two. How are y'all?" Ellen says with a cheerful tone in her voice.
"Good. Good. Busy but good." Josh says loudly. I nod with agreement.
"You must be. This movie is going to be huge I've heard."
"Yeah. It's been a long time in the making but it's been worth it. I loved the book and it was amazing to see it come to life." I say back to Ellen. she nods and we keep talking together for a few minutes. Each things she says makes my abs hurt from laughter.
"So I have this video that your friends sent in earlier of you when you were 12 I believe." Ellen mumbles. I already know what the video is and so does Josh. I laugh after she says this.
"I'm guessing you already know what video this is." I nod.
"My friend sent it to Josh earlier this week." I look at the camera."Sydney I'm coming to get you." I say in a sarcastic tone. Ellen laughs. She cues the guy to play it. The crowd laughs loudly. I put my face in my hands to hide my embarrassment. I can hear both of the people on my sides cracking up. I eventually hear the noise from the video go off and I lift my face.
"Sooooo... were you a big Josh Hutcherson fan?" She asks. I nod giggling.
"Why be embarrassed? You know I thought it was cute." Josh says then kissing me on the cheek. Ellen's eyes go wide.
"Wait. When did this happen? I had no idea you were back together! I need to update my files I guess." Ellen's yells loudly. My cheeks turn red and so do Josh's. For the rest of the interview, she goes in and on about our relationship. When we finally finish at the Ellen show, I am already tired from the day. So when we get home I slip on some sweatpants and fall into a deep sleep.
One month later...
I pull into the driveway that was my home for my childhood. My mom waits for us at the doorway into the kitchen. I jump out of the car not fast enough and run to hug her. Josh stands in the back of the car getting luggage.
"I have a surprise for you in the kitchen." My mom says. My instinct brings me to running into the house. My brother stands there all grown up. I scream and run into his arms.
"Hey little sis. Look at you! Big movie star!" I hear him yell.
"It's so great to see you Jacob. how's college in Minnesota?" I ask.
"Good. I love everything about it. I actually have a girlfriend named Danielle there." Jacob says back.
"Oooooo. Jake and Danielle. I like it."
"Well, what about you Mrs. Hutcherson!" Just when he says that Josh walks in the house.
"What do hear about a Mrs. Hutcherson?" Josh questions laughing. "Hello. You must be Jake, Ann's brother. I've heard about you a lot."
"So have I. Especially when this girl was young. She knew everything about you. And I mean everything." I nudge Jake and he punches me playfully. Josh smiles at us.
"I've got to go unpack but we will do something later. All of us." I mumble as I run for the stairs and go up to my room. I put my music and an walk around my room. It's the same as I left it nine months ago. My bookshelf about to break from all the books. My records for my record player spread over the floor. All my photographs hung so I can see them. I take my clothing out of the luggage and hang them up in my closet next to the ones I left behind. I look outside my window to see it's getting
darker. Knowing that my brother, Josh and I are doing something soon, I jump in the shower. As I always do, I start singing while washing my hair.
After about ten minutes of the shower, I get out and get dressed. I blow my hair dry and put it into a bun. Humming while I look through my bookshelf, I hear someone behind me.
"I love when you sing." They say. I turn around and sure enough Josh is sitting there in my reading chair.
"How long have you been in here?" I ask.
"Only since you began looking through those books. By the way, why do you have so many books?"
"Because I love to read." I whisper. "They are an escape for me. I can go to a billion different places but never leave mine." Josh grins and walks over to me. He moves his hand swiftly onto my cheek.
"You know your brother gave me a speech." Josh mumbles.
"About what?" I ask.
"You." I give him a confused look. " Your brother gave me the big brother speech. The one where he tells me to never hurt you." I don't know why but I laugh. Jake never seemed like that kind of brother.
"Well, I can handle myself. I know you would never hurt me. Intentionally." I add. Josh laughs steadily.
"Nope. Never." Josh says to me. We lean in and give one another a lingering kiss. I can smell the soap on him. How could I be this happy? I never knew this kind of happiness existed.
Not until today.
