Chapter 10: Prom and Rainy Nights

I walk to school in the chilly fall air missing the hot air in California and the long beaches like the one I went to with Jos... I yell at myself. No more thoughts about Josh. Arguing with myself I walk into school and head to my locker. Peter walks over just as I slam my locker. "So I guess our friends planned us going to the prom together." Peter says shyly. "Yeah. You don't have to go with me. It's just I don't have a date and you don't either do why not!" I yell to loud so people start staring at me. "Totally. I would love to go with you. I'll pick you up at nine, okay?" He asks. "Perfect. See you then!" I exclaim. Tonight's going to be good. I know it.


As I'm about to take a nap at 2:00 when my phone starts buzzing a lot. I look down and see all the text messages are from Josh asking how I am. I decide to text back. So this is what our conversation was:

Josh: how are you?
Me: good. Just getting ready for prom at nine.
Josh: really? I'm just with Vanessa right now. We're going to see a movie soon.
Me: oh. Cool. So your back together?
Josh: yeah. I guess so. Miss you though.
Me. Nice. Gtg bye.
That is the last thing I write before turning my phone off and drifting into a quiet sleep still thinking about how much I miss him too.


JOSH'S POV

"That conversation couldn't have gone any worst!" I grumble to myself. Now I all I can think about my Ann going to a dance with some other guy. I don't even want to go to a movie to tonight. Vanessa's forcing me. She forces me to do everything. I'm sick off her sooo....... I have made the decision to break up with her and get Ann back. She just has to forgive me. She just has to.

ANN'S POV

My eyes are all blurry and puffy when I wake up at 5:00. I realize I should start getting ready now because I know it will take me awhile.

After two hours of primping and one hour of eating, it's finally nine and I'm finally ready. Peter goes exactly at nine looking sharp and brings me to the school. We walk hand in hand together into the gym. Everyone looks amazing in there gowns and suits. Peter and I start dancing and I have so much fun. I tell him I need some air so I walk outside and sit on the front steps of the school. As soon as I can catch my breathe, I head back in.

I can't see Peter anywhere until I spot his hair in the back. Making my way through the crowd I see more and more of him. When I finally get to him I see he's making out with some other girl. I turn around and push everyone out of the way embarrassed of what happened to me. I think I'm going to cry but I don't. I'm so sick of crying and how weak it makes you feel. I'm done. I'm just done with everything.

JOSH'S POV

I see a taxi when I finally get out of the airport. It's cold out here so I have to put my jacket on. Racing to get to her school, I finally get there. I run inside and go looking for her. She nowhere to be found. I ask a boy where she is and said she ran out about ten minutes ago because her date cheated on her. I run out of the school and start going in a specific direction. I know exactly the route of where she's walking home.

ANN'S POV

My heels click as I swiftly walk down the path to my home I always go when I want to be alone. I remember I told Josh about that but he probably doesn't remember. Why do I feel so not myself right now? Why? I eventually start tearing up. Then, I sob. Rain starts trickling down my face until it downpours on me. I hold my hands up as if I was asking why god did this to me. I let them drop down by my sides. I keep walking until I hear a familiar voice behind me. "Ann?" The voice says. I turn around and I see who I wanted it to be. "Josh." I whisper.
