Common Ground

All wars have come to an end

This is a message I would like to send

But I myself have enlisted

Happily I have been conscripted

Pledged my time and my wealth

To risk happiness and health

to wage all out war on war itself

All wars have come to an end

In victory cries or bitter defeat

I watch with tears a tentative peace

knowing the fear of approaching beasts

and seeing pain in poignant eyes;

hearing in vain the hopeless cries

All wars have come to an end

in visions of worlds far beyond

I stand wounded on this battlefield

where the world would not yield

where our hearts could not contend

to rally for peace and defend

All wars have come to an end

only when we give up control

There is no order observed by all

Everyone follows their own call

No flag has been flown that all bow to

This keeps peace from getting through

only on common ground my friend
