"Hugh, sweetie! Get out of bed and ready for school! You going to be late! Again!" Mum yelled at me from down the stairs. I yawned lazily and picked myself up. I aimlessly wandered into the bathroom and had a quick shower before getting my school clothes on. I shoved all my books in my school bag and ran down the stairs. "Mum, I need a cereal bar and ten pounds." I said quickly. My mum smiled and handed me the money without a question and threw two coco pop cereal bars over the counter to me. I gratefully picked them up and ran out the door. I couldn't wait for school today because today was the day we all prepared for the harvest festival (which was always really fun) who meant no proper lessons! Usually, on a Monday I have:
Spanish
German
Geography
English
Drama
Drama.
I had six lessons today because students going in for privileges (where you get to go out of school for lunch and get extra credit and got chosen to do special jobs in class and it goes on your college CV and you get to wear any clothes you want on a Friday) so I would have to stay an extra hour with other privilege students taking drama. I began to hope my crush, Fee, would be taking privileges. At the start of the year, because she wasn't here in year nine, she got the choice. I honestly hoped she picked yes.

I ran past people in the street and only just managed to get on the school bus before it left. I snagged a seat next to Millard and turned to him excitedly. He was also taking privileges but not drama. Emma, Bronwyn and my football mate Johnny Hill were all also taking privileges. Enoch thought it was a waste of time and Horace had to go to therapy everyday after school so he couldn't stay for privileges.

"Hey, Mill. Its Harvest Festival soon. Which means what, you good friend?" I asked jokingly. "Your going to ask that stupid Fiona to the dance?" He murmured sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Millard!" I moaned loudly. Luckily, people got used to my loudness so nobody took any notice. "Today is the day we do get proper lessons! And neither tomorrow or the rest of the week! I simply love Harvest Festival Week!" "Well I don't because I like school and I like learning and find this whole thing a stupid contest for people to try and raise more money then their friends." Millard grumbled. "Come in, Mill! At least pretend your about to have an amazing day!" I encourages. He rolled his eyes again and started to study languages on his phone. I knew I wasn't going to get a conversation, so I stood up to see of we were at Fiona's stop.

Sure enough, she came in looking at the floor and made her way to the back on the furthest seat away from society. Luckily, the one next to her was free. "Millard, I'm going move by Fiona. See you in Geography!" I said and picked my bags off the floor and sat by Fiona. "Hey, Fee." I smiled at her. She moved her head slowly to face me. "Today is the start of a great week, Fee. Did you know that?" I asked. She shook her head. "Whats happening this week?" She whispered. "Its Harvest Festival Week, which means no proper lessons as each teacher is preparing and we all get to help supply ideas and and help out! Everyone gets a chance to do something! And if you don't want to, you don't have to! Isn't the great, Fee?" Fee nodded. "Can't wait." She whispered. "What lessons you got?" I asked her, pulling out my own time table. She pulled out hers and pointed to Monday blue week (stupid school system had is two separate weeks so we could fit in all our lessons). She had:
History
Design technology (DT)
Computing (ICT)
English
Drama
Drama.
"Cool, so have you gone in for privileges?" I asked hopefully. Fee nodded. "Mary-Anne said it would be good for college." She whispered. I nodded. Fiona had told me all about her movie from Ireland, loosing her mother, and only the other day had her father died due to starvation and dehydration. All the villages supplies had gone out, so near enough everyone died due to that thing above.

"Hugh? Yesterday was terrible. Can I tell you what happened? I want to tell someone but no use it being the girls as they don't know what happened and they were there!" "Of course, Fiona." I glowed at the thought that she had come to me to talk, and not Emma or Bronwyn or someone else. Although I can't imagine her knowing anybody else to be frank. "Well, Emma suggested I come to help her and Bronwyn with Olive, as a little girl time. When we went to my house, my family pretended to me as real a family as possible, and that's what we discussed. Families. But then, I completely lost when it came my turn to talk. I managed through saying was Mary-Anne did, but when I came to dads, well, I ran away crying. They had to leave and go to Bronwyns house. I'm so embarrassed and I have DT with her, Hugh!" I put my arm round her as she began to silently cry. After about eight more stops (yes I said eight more, and I need to be quick to catch mine as this coach goes all round everywhere) we made it to the school.
