It had been a couple of hours since they had come back home from New York. Vienna had retreated back to her house, and Harry did the same to his own. Venice asked her about the trip, and Vienna answered honestly.
"It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty special." She had told the younger sister. Venice was skeptical of her sister's perfectly spoken answer, but decided not to question it.
"Whatever happened, just call Matty." Venice urged Vienna, who's head dipped at the sound of her estranged best friend's name.
"I don't know if I can." She whispered, a near whimper sound following the sentence swiftly. Venice shook her head, standing up, and exiting the room.
It took Vienna an hour of staring at her phone before she took up the courage to call Matty. Her hand was shaky as she held the ringing phone to her ear. When he finally did pick up -after eight rings, Vienna counted- it was heard through the line that Matty gasped.
"Vienna? Or is it Harry, did something happen to her?" Matty rambled nervously.
"No, no, it's me Mat." She assured him, and he sighed in relief.
"Are you still mad at me?" He questioned.
"No, I'm not. But I'm not okay with it either. I just needed to talk to you." She eased, and opened the door to her art studio. It had been a while since she had been in her favorite place full of fumes and she had missed it. She sat down at the floor in front of the window, and a montage of all the times Harry had called her through it passed her mind.
"Okay, babe. You know you can talk to me about anything." He urged. "You better not be pregnant though, I'll beat Harry's ass." He warned.
"I'm not pregnant, Jesus. At least I don't think, but that's not the point. The point is I need advice from my best friend." She refocused, sighing to herself. "Harry and I had a small fight over the weekend while we were in New York."
"Wait, you and Harry were in New York?"
"Yes."
"How the hell didn't I know about this? Venice didn't even-"
"Matty, stay focused."
"Yeah, but your sister didn't even tell me anything!"
"What are you and my younger sister like best mates now? Jesus, she's seventeen."
"Anyways, New York?"
"Yeah, we went to New York this weekend, and at the end he took me to an art gallery. And he was really sweet, but then there was a surprise, and there was an unveiling of one of my paintings! He stole it from my art studio, and it was one of my mum. I don't know if I was overreacting or not, but we had a fight, and I'm not sure whether or was justified or not." She explained. "And that's why I called you, I need your advise."
"Well, are you still mad at him?" He questioned calmly.
"Not mad, just a bit disappointed that he went behind my back."
"Then you're not overreacting. Your fight was normal, and as long as you're not dragging out your anger unnecessarily long then you're fine. And obviously you're going to be hurt, he stole something from you even if it was supposed to be romantic." Matty assured, and Vienna sighed in relief.
"Okay, thanks for that." She spoke genuinely, and they spent a few moment thinking about each other over the phone. "Matty?" She called.
"Yeah."
"I miss you a lot. And I'm sorry. I shouldn't have expected you to do all that I did." She breathed, a few tears welled up in her lids. "It wasn't fair of me, and I'm sorry it took me this long to tell you that."
"Hey, it's okay Via. I missed you too, a lot, a lot. I'm sorry that I didn't apologize faster too, it was wrong of me to accuse you of being wrong, when really I was just feeling guilty and didn't want to admit it. I really am sorry, doll." He rambled.
"Matty, let's never do that again, okay?"
"Agreed. Oh, and I got rid of Marcus. I shipped him off to the military. I forgot to tell you that." Matty cheered, and Vienna huffed in a huge smile.
"That's great! I mean- I'm really sorry that you're brother's gone, but I'm not at the same time, and I don't really want to lie." She bursted, and Matty laughed loudly.
"Oh lord, Vienna you don't have to be sorry, that boy was the living embodiment of hell." Matty agreed.
"I'm glad you agree." She laughed, and glanced from the cover on the floor she sat on to the window where she saw Harry looking at her through his. She smiled, and waved, and he responded with what looked like ease.
His hand went up in a wave, and he visibly relaxed as he looked at her. His heart beat harder in his chest, and he was thankful she couldn't see how relieved he was to have her back, even if they hadn't talked it out. His lips whispered words to himself that he admired about her, which he wouldn't dare say directly to her.
After he had stepped away from the window, he grabbed her journal, and wrote two simple words.
'Sweet creature.'
"Vienna?" Matty asked her, after a lull of silence.
"Yeah, sorry. I was just-"
"It's okay, doll. Why don't I let you get some sleep, and recover?" Matty suggested. She smiled over the phone, and exited the art studio, closing the door behind her.
"That sounds great, Matty. Thanks." And with that, they hung up.
Vienna stepped into her room, and curled on top of her bed, her palm resting with her phone on top of it. She tugged a blanket over her legs, and her mind started working. That was, until Venice walked into her dim room with a nervous look in her eyes.
"Can I sleep in your bed?" The younger sister asked nervously. Vienna nodded and Venice slid in, cuddling into her older sister. "Vienna, I'm scared." She admitted.
"I know, Ven. Me too." The older sister agreed, pressing a kiss to her siblings temple.
And the two siblings realized that night that it was okay to be not okay.
