Vienna was cuddled up with Fitz when the phone rang. She picked up the little cat, and carried him from the art studio into her room where her phone was, and pressed the answer button before lifting the device to her ear."Hello?"
"Hello, is this the guardian of Venice James?" The person on the other end of the line asked.
"This is she." Vienna answered, and became increasingly worried. It was nerve wracking to have to answer as a guardian, for anything really.
"The results for the blood sample of Venice James have come in, so if you both could come in as soon as possible, that would be great."
"O-of course, um we could be in by the end of the day." Vienna stuttered, knowing that they would have just told her over the phone if her sister's blood was clear.
"Dr Ashaph has an open slot tonight at seven if that's convenient." The nurse worked out.
"That's perfect, thank you." Vienna clicked her phone off and placed it in her back pocket before she huffed out a breath and made her way to Venice's room. "We have to head down to the hospital at seven, they got the results for your blood test." She informed her younger sister.
"Well shit, that's not good." Vienna nodded in agreement to Venice's words, and then padded down the stairs to where Louis was on the couch, sprawled out and on his phone.
"Hi love." He greeted her, sat up at her entry.
"Hey." She sighed out, and sat down next to him, closed her eyes for a bit to calm herself down. Next thing she knew, her younger sister was calling her.
"Vienna, we have to head down to the hospital." Venice tapped at her older sister's shoulder, and she woke. A hand was rested in her hair, and she looked to find Louis asleep with his hand lazily depositing weight on her skull.
She slid out of the hold of the blue eyed man and shrugged on a sweatshirt, grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down a note for Louis.
Off to an appointment, be back later tonight. -Big V
And the two sisters made their way to their car, and started driving to the hospital. Vienna's hands nervously gripped around the steering wheel, until Venice grabbed at her wrists and forced them to stop. Vienna then composed herself and drove them safely the rest of the way to the hospital.
"H-hi, we're here for an ap-appointment for my younger sister Vienna James." She stammered out, her nerves back full force. Venice slowly intertwined her hand with her older sister's as she started to feel anxious in the sanitized white building.
"It's an appointment with Dr Ashaph." Venice told the receptionist, and the worker quickly typed the information into her computer.
"That will be ten dollars." The receptionist told Vienna, and accepted the shaky ten that was placed in her hand. "Area one thirteen." She directed the pair of siblings upstairs, and watched as they made their way up with their hands still tied to the other.
They sat in the waiting area and Venice went on her phone to distract herself, while Vienna tried to keep her breathing calm. Vienna noticed her younger sister texting someone, but she didn't want to pry so she let Venice be. Vienna would jump every time the nurse opened the door to yell for someone, and then relax when she didn't hear her last name.
"Venice James." The nurse called, and the pair stood up, Venice with shaky hands, and Vienna trying to conceal her nerves.
The nurse did her duty of bringing them to the room where the doctor would meet them. The James sisters breathed in the freshly sterilized air, and Venice tried to get ahold of her emotions before she burst into tears over nothing. There was a swift knock on the door before the doctor came in, a man in his early forties with a kind smile and blonde hair.
"Nice to meet you too," he spoke as he shook both of their hands. "I'm Dr Ashaph, and I'll be doing the best to make this a comfortable appointment." He then logged on to his computer and looked at the information he had on file for Venice and his smile dropped slowly.
"Oh shit." Venice muttered as she took in his face. "Just give it to me straight please, I don't think I can handle if you sugarcoat it." She braved, and the doctor nodded admirably at her.
"Well, the blood sample you gave showed us that you have a rare cancer called acute myeloid leukemia." He stated, and a tear fell down Venice's cheek and Vienna buried her face in her hands, subdued her sobs in her fingers.
"And what does that mean?" Venice inquired.
"It's very rare, and so the only option you have is chemotherapy." Dr Ashaph told them, and Vienna finally looked up with a red face and tears evident on her cheeks.
"Is it terminal at this point?" The elder sister asked pitifully.
"I have more news that you should know because it might influence whether or not Venice is terminal." The doctor spoke, and Vienna sucked in a breath.
"Okay." Venice urged the doctor.
"Venice, you're pregnant." He rubbed his hands on his thighs and looked into the eyes of the younger sibling.
"Oh my god." Vienna whispered.
"If you decide on going with the chemotherapy, your body will not recover as quickly because all of it's nutrients is going to go towards developing the baby. You will most likely have a miscarriage." The doctor explained, and Venice's eyebrows furrowed.
"So the underlying note of that is an abortion?" Venice deduced, and the doctor nodded solemnly.
"It's your decision of course, but that is definitely an option."
Once the appointment was over and they had rescheduled another one, they went down to the car and sat in silence in the vehicle for a second. Venice's face changed as soon as they came out of the hospital. Her cool and collected front in the doctors office faded away and she became the scared girl that she refused to show in the moments prior. She grabbed Vienna's hand and turned her own knuckles white with the force she exerted.
"Let it out, baby." Vienna urged. "It's okay to be afraid sometimes." She soothed her younger sister, ran a hand through the crying girl's hair until she calmed herself down.
"I'm pregnant, Vienna." She breathed out when Vienna had pulled off the offramp to their house.
"You should tell Jared, he deserves to know." Vienna spoke, and Venice hitched a breath.
"Vienna?"
"Yeah."
"It's not Jared's." The interest of the older sibling peaked as she pulled into the driveway of their house, and she parked the car then looked at Venice.
"Oh, whose is it?" She questioned, and Venice looked straight in her eyes before she sucked in a deep breath.
"It's Jay's."
^i just want you all to know that i came up with that pregnancy shit today, not four months ago when i planned the book out. *pats self on the back* good fucking job, tuesday^
