Millie had no idea how to make a boy fall in love with her. She wasn't exactly nervous around boys, but she wasn't like Sadie. She was bland and boring. She was a good girl.

"I'm not going to help you." Sadie suddenly spoke up. She knew she couldn't lose this bet. She refused to help her best friend, even if she wanted to.

Millie rolled her eyes, "I don't need your help."

"Whatever. I'm meeting the boys at the park today if you'd like to come?" Sadie suggested.

Millie shrugged. "Maybe." Truthfully, Millie was nervous. She didn't want to mess things up and ruin her chance of winning the bet.

"I'm giving you the perfect opportunity to talk to him, and you're just going to say 'maybe'? You really are helpless." Sadie huffed and left Millie alone in her bedroom.

Sadie had a point. If Millie didn't try to talk to him tonight, she probably never would. Millie started to wonder why she ever agreed to this bet in the first place. A guy like him would never fall for her.

Sadie came back into the room a while later, this time carrying shopping bags.

"Where did you go?" Millie closed her book and looked up at her best friend.

She motioned to the shopping bags, "I had to get some clothes for tonight."

"Oh, about that. I think I'm going with you."

Sadie smiled, "I knew you'd change your mind! What are you going to wear? First impressions are everything."

"Probably this." Millie looked down at the tank top and over sized cardigan she was wearing.

Sadie looked at Millie and frowned, "Oh... you're wearing your contacts, right?" Sadie always told Millie she looked better without her glasses.

"I wasn't planning on it." Millie pushed up her glasses. She never wore her contacts.

"Fine. Let's get going, then." Sadie touched up her makeup and put on her new dress. Millie never cared about what she wore, but standing next to Sadie suddenly made her feel insecure.

In their small town, there was hardly a need for cars. Mostly everything was in walking distance, no matter where you lived. The walk to the park from Sadie's house only took a few minutes.

Millie noticed the boys immediately. All three were sitting on their skateboards.

"Hey, Sadie!" Millie recognized the boys voice from their last encounter. Sadie smiled at Caleb and ran over to him. His face lit up when he saw her. If only he knew, Millie thought.

Then, she saw him.

He looked the same as before. His hair was just as tangled. He was pale, even more so against his dark hair.

"Caleb and I are going for a walk! Millie, you should introduce yourself." Sadie motioned to the other boys, then wandered off with Caleb.

"I'm Noah!" The smaller one said after Sadie and Caleb were gone.

She smiled at the boy, "I'm Millie." He was cute. Like a baby, though.

Finn looked up at Millie, and she noticed he had a cigarette in his mouth. She hated guys who smoked, but she couldn't deny how attractive she found it.

He took the cigarette out of his mouth, "I'm Finn." His voice wasn't what she expected. He looked like someone with a low, deep voice, but it was more high pitched and scratchy.

Noah frowned, "put that out, Finn. It's disgusting."

He ignored the small boy, and instead turned towards Millie, "What are you reading?"

She handed Finn the book, "It's Stephen King."

"IT? That's one of my favorites." Millie noticed a small smile on his face.

"You've read it?"

He nodded," It's a classic." Finn handed her back the book.

Noah sighed, "You guys are nerds." Millie turned towards the boy. She had almost forgotten he was there.

Finn laughed and rolled his eyes.

"Tell us about yourself, Millie." Noah spoke up.

"What do you wanna know?"

"Why do you like reading?" Finn asked. Noah looked at him strangely, but Finn didn't care. He wanted to know more about the girl.

She thought about his question for a moment, "I like the way books can distract you from reality. It's like an escape."

He couldn't help but smile at the girls answer. He was intrigued by her. She was different. He didn't know many girls that liked to read, and he didn't know any that read Stephen King.

Noah stood up and looked over at Finn, "I gotta get home. You coming?"

"I think I might stay here for a while."

Noah nodded, "It was nice to meet you, Mills."

"You too." She smiled.

Millie and Finn watched the small boy ride away on his skateboard.

"I liked your answer, by the way." Finn spoke up once the boy was out of sight.

"Really? I thought it was kinda dumb."

"It wasn't."

She smiled softly, "Thank you."

"Hey!" A familiar voice called over to Millie and Finn.

They turned around and saw Sadie and Caleb walking towards them.

"Hey, Sadie." Millie smiled. She looked down and noticed Caleb and Sadie were holding hands.

"Hey, Mills! You ready to go?"

The girl shrugged. "I guess so."

"Bye, Sadie." Caleb turned and kissed her cheek, causing the small girl's face to turn almost as red as her hair. Millie hadn't seen Sadie blush like that over a boy before.

"Bye, Millie." Finn winked and took another puff of his cigarette.

Her eyes widened, "Uh, bye Finn."

Sadie looked at Millie with a confused look, but Millie didn't notice. She was looking at Finn.

Something about the boy made her nervous. She never felt that way before, and she hated it. It's just a bet, Millie.

"Millie, don't forget about the bet." Sadie said once they were far enough away from the boys.

"I know, Sadie."

"Jut making sure. Let's go home. I have so much to tell you."

Millie sighed, "great."
