"Mom, you can't do this to me."
Millie's mother sighed, shaking her head at the girl, "A private school will be great for you."
"You don't understand, Finn goes to that school." Millie pleaded.
"I'm not discussing this any further, Millie."
The girl groaned, walking out of the kitchen and up towards her room. She'd been begging her mom to let her stay at her old school for weeks, but it was useless. She wouldn't budge.
Millie hadn't talked to anyone besides her family in the past few weeks. As summer came to a close, Millie spent her days inside reading, just like she used to before Finn.
Finn. She hated how much she still thought about him. She hadn't seen him since the morning after the party. He never asked her for an explanation, he was just was gone. Out of her life, but definitely not out of her head. Until school starts back up, that is.
Millie's mother decided it was a good idea to transfer her to a private school to "further her education". Millie thought it was bullshit, she was doing just fine at her old school. The only private school in their small town was somewhere Millie could never picture herself. The students there were snobs, and they had to wear uniforms, a thought Millie dreaded. But the one thing she dreaded the most was a dark haired boy she couldn't get out of her head.
She was prepared to be friendless either way. At her old school, Sadie was her only friend, and that friendship was far gone. At her new school, the only people she'll know is Finn, Caleb, and Noah. And it's not like they would talk to her after this summers events.
It was all her fault, really. She thought winning the bet would be for the best, but really it ruined everything. Millie and Sadie hadn't talked since their fight. It was weird for Millie, not spending the last days of summer with her best friend.
And for Finn, well, that was gone too. After Sadie told Finn about the bet, he had no intention of ever speaking to Millie again. He didn't want to hear her excuses, he just wanted to forget.
Now that they would be attending the same school, it would be a lot harder to forget.
Millie walked towards her closet and opened the door, taking a long glance at the unworn uniform hanging inside. It consisted of a navy blue skirt and dark green sweater with a white collar, you're typical private school uniform. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't necessarily something she wanted to wear every day.
"Millie?"
Millie turned away from the uniform and towards the door of her room, where her mother stood with a calm smile. "Are you ready for your first day tomorrow?"
Millie sighed, "No, but I don't really have a choice, so..." her voice trailed off.
"It's okay to be nervous, a new school can be scary."
"Yeah, a new school with the boy who's heart you broke." Millie mumbled.
Her mother's eyes widened, "you broke someone's heart?"
Millie shook her head. "Just forget it, okay?" She walked towards her bed and grabbed IT, the novel she still hadn't finished.
