"Gosh, Mills. I'm so sorry."
Millie sighed, resting her head on Iris's shoulder. "I just feel awful, you know? I was so stupid."
Jaeden shook his head from the front seat. "Don't say that, Mills."
Millie shrugged. "well it's true."
"It's not. He's just hurt, that's all." Iris replied. Millie nodded, only half believing the girl's words. No matter how much they told her it was okay, she knew it wasn't.
After a few minutes of Jaeden and Iris talking and Millie quietly staring out the window, the group arrived to Starbucks. They informed Millie that they always went there after school to do homework. Even though the girl wasn't much in the mood to do anything after earlier events, she agreed to go with them.
"We need to get that blood off your knees." Iris mentioned, stepping out of the car and shutting the door behind her.
Millie looked down, completely forgetting she was even bleeding. "Yea, that'd probably be a good idea." She laughed.
The three friends walked into Starbucks, Millie and Iris entering the bathroom while Jaeden ordered.
"That Nic guy is such a jerk. I mean, who just pushes people like that?" Iris said while gently wiping the blood off Millie's knees.
Before Millie could respond, the bathroom door swung open, and a girl with red hair walked inside. Millie's eyes went wide. Of course, something like this would only happen to her.
Iris gave Millie a confused look, before also looking over to the girl. Though she didn't recognize her, the long red hair and expression on Millie's face were a dead giveaway of who it was. Sadie Sink.
Sadie looked over to the two girls, looking just as shocked as they were.
"Uh- hey." She mumbled. Millie noticed the absence of the usual confidence in the girl's voice.
"Really? That's all you have to say after everything you've done?" Iris suddenly spoke up.
Millie looked over at her. "Iris, you don't have to."
"No, Mills. She was awful to you. The least she could do is apologize."
"I'm sorry." Sadie spoke.
"It's fine, Sadie. I don't care anymore." Millie replied. She meant it, too. Millie never held a grudge.
"I've had a lot of time to think. Millie, I was never a good friend to you. Not only did I ruin your relationship with Finn, but I ruined our friendship, if you could even call it that. You were an amazing friend to me, and I never was to you. I was so selfish, and when I messed everything up with Caleb, I didn't want you to be happy with Finn. I know this apology doesn't change anything, but I mean every word, Mills. I really do."
Millie wasn't sure how to feel. The apology felt real, she knew it was, but things were different now. Sadie never treated her right, and going back to being friends with her would make her feel weak. She had new friends, ones that cared about her more than Sadie ever did.
"Thank you, Sads. That means a lot, really." The sadness in Millie's voice was evident. She'd known Sadie for almost her entire life, and this apology sounded a lot like a goodbye. She would always care for Sadie, that was certain, but she knew their friendship was over. That part of her life was gone, whether she was ready to move on or not.
With a final nod, Sadie walked out of the bathroom, leaving Iris and Millie alone again.
Millie sighed, "Thank you, Iris. For sticking up for me. You're a good friend."
Iris smiled at the girl, "I just know how much she hurt you. I had to say something."
Millie nodded, "is it weird that I'm a little sad? She was my best friend, regardless of the stuff she did."
"No, I get that. It's hard losing someone, even if they didn't treat you the best. At least you got to end it on good terms, rather than a fight."
Iris finished wiping the blood from Millie's knees, and the two girls went to find Jaeden. After a few hours of studying and talking, the three friends went home.
