Kumakabog ang puso ko habang naglalakad pabalik ng private dining room kung saan kumakain sina Sir James.
As I sat, all of them turned their attention to me.
“Are you okay Ms. Magsalang?” asked Sir James. “You looked---”
“Bothered.” Michael butted in. “And blushing.”
May halong panunukso sa boses ni Michael pero hindi ko sya pinansin at nginitian ng matipid si Sir James. “I’m perfectly fine, sir. In fact, we can now discuss the project that you’d like to offer.”
Sir James nodded in agreement and as we we’re discussing, pumasok si Adam at umupo sa tabi ng kanyang fiancée.
Nakatuon ang atensyon ko kay Sir James pero kitang-kita ko sa gilid ng aking mata ang sweetness ni Adam at ni Cassidy. I saw how he took her hands to his and kissed each of her knuckles and how she responded with a kiss on his lips. Sa harap naming lahat! Though it was not torrid but sure it wasn’t an innocent kiss.
“Hey, both of you! Get a room!” saway ni Michael sa kanila and even then their parents were oblivious. Si Ma’am Elena may kausap sa cellphone samantalang patuloy pa ring nakikipag-usap sa akin si Sir James.
“Actually, we will get a room. Right, hon?” nangingiting sagot naman ni Adam and Cassidy softly smacked his arm and was also laughing. “Mom, dad we’ll go---”
“Ms. Magsalang, you’ll work with Michael in this project.”
Ano daw? “Excuse me, sir but can you repeat what you just said?” Ayan Belle, napaka-tsismosa mo kasi, sa ibang side ka pa nakinig.
“Michael is an IT analyst; you’ll work with him in the first phase of this project.”
WHAT?! Nilingon ko si Michael para malaman ang reaksyon nya at hindi ako makapaniwala sa nakita ko. Ang ngiti nya abot hanggang tenga. Ang saya nya yata, pwde naman na tumango lang diba?
Bumaling ako pabalik kay Sir James. “Tomorrow, Michael will show you the security system we have in our company’s main building. And you’ll have him for the rest of the assistance you’ll need.”
No way. Ayokong makipagtrabaho sa kapatid ni Adam. Tatanggi na sana ako pero naunahan ako ng takot sa maaaring gawin ni Sir James kapag ginawa ko ‘yun. You can’t just say no to one of the world’s 500 richest.
So I just nodded, Sir James smiled and that was it.
Nabigla na lang ako nang bigla na lang may kamay na pumulupot sa balikat ko. Of course, it was Michael, may iba pa ba akong katabi? And as I glanced at him, he was still smiling.
“What’s so funny?” I hissed at him that only he can hear.
“Nah, just overwhelmed. I look forward to working with you Isabelle.”
Binigyan ko sya ng matipid na ngiti hanggang sa mapatingin ako kay Adam na nakasimangot kay Michael.
“Dad, are you sure about this? Why Michael? We have other employees who are way better than him. The project is not a joke.”
Napaalsa ako ng kilay sa sinabi ni Adam. Grabe, he was rude pati sa sarili nyang kapatid. Kung titingnan si Michael, oo mukha syang walang pakialam sa mundo pero hindi naman siguro ibibigay sa kanya ang trabaho kung wala syang alam.
“I’m giving your brother a chance, son. They have a common field, I know they’ll both do great,” sagot ni Sir James.
Tumango ako. “Actually, I’m looking forward to be working with Michael. From my experience, I have a gut feeling that he will nail this job. Some people outside our cyber world will not understand but we IT people know our kind.” Indirect na patutsada ko kay Adam na may kasamang ngiti.
