Chapter 15

She knew something was up the minute she arrived. There was a blue charger parked next to William's, which hadn't been there before. She finished half of the Mountain Dew and sighed.
I guess I'll save the rest... Nah.
She chugged the rest of it and tossed the bottle in the trash, walking inside and giggling. She went past the front desk and to the back left room where William was. The minute she saw the door, she knew something was up. It was practically hanging off the hinges and there was a tall shadow on the inside. She snuck up behind the person, not being able to see past them. She waited a moment before she punched him in the spine then swept his legs, knocking him over as she leapt over him and into the room.
Well shit.
William was sitting on the bed with a tall younger man, both laughing their asses off looking at the guy she took down.
"Excuse me but what's going on here?"
"Remember my little brother Robert? Say hi. We were just catching up." He smiled and walked over to her giving her a hug, "Good to see you, Scarlet."
"You too little guy. But what are you doing here?" The words seemed to hang heavy in the room for a moment, his face changing grim and serious.
"There was an attempt on the commander of our pack's life. She has called you and a few others in to create a new guard detail of our strongest." That sent her back a step. An attempt on any commanders life was the equivalent of a death sentence or an act of war. The commanders were like government officials of their kind, not to mention they all knew each other politically and some personally.
"Who made the attempt?"
"No one knows. It's strange, the attempt was extremely well planned, one of her own personal guards turned on her during a peace meeting. The guard killed himself before he could be caught after the attempt failed, they know for a fact he has some kind of network."
"Whose leading the case?"
"The minute we leave, you." Well there was a surprise.
"Why me?"
"You are literally the strongest of our pack. The commander personally requested you, she strongly believes in your abilities. Not to mention she wants all these idiots on it too, as your personal team."
Oh Yay I get to command the lovable idiots.
William smiled and stuck his tongue out at her, "Hehe you gotta be responsible... wait..." He turned to his brother, "am I on that team?"
"Yup."
"Well, shit." She smacked him upside the head and smiled, "Damn right dumbass. Better rethink those words."
He gave her a lopsided grin, then got up to get the rest of his things together while Robert filled her in more on the situation. They just finished when he walked back in, all his bags over his shoulders.
"What in the hell do you think you're doing there, you big idiot?" Robert's nonchalance made her laugh while just pissing off his brother.
"Carrying my bags."
"The fuck you are."
He raises an eyebrow at the two of them staring at him. Then sighs as he hands his bag to his brother, knowing it was pointless to argue.
"Is there anything I can do?"
"You can sit there like a good little puppy and stop being stubborn." He couldn't help but smile at that, knowing she wasn't really asking. He stuck his tongue out at her like a toddler, and laughed when she tried to cover up a smile. "A quick recap," Robert sighed at them, "The Commander wants Scarlet to lead her investigation team. William, you're on whatever she puts you on. Joe and Cody are on Intelligence, they'll look into all possible leads. Merlin is on security." William groans and complains the whole time, getting a death stare from his brother, and a shut the fuck up glare from Scarlet. Robert sighed then shrugged "Fuck it, can he be on coffee duty or something?"
"I'll think of something." Those words made him snap to attention, both of them laughing as Williams brother picks up his bags and walks out. William waits a minute before saying anything then finally turns to Scarlet.
"Are you ready for this?"
She smiles at him, then sighs "Why not?"
