**6 months later**

“Chris what are you doing?” I asked flipping the channel and glancing toward the kitchen. “I’m making popcorn babe” he said and smiled at me. “Hurry up, the movie is about to start” I said pulling the blanket closer to my body.  Chris walked over and placed the popcorn bowl on the coffee table then pulled me unto his lap. I smiled and made myself comfortable.

Chris and I started dating about four months ago. When the whole situation with Lance happened, I was heartbroken. Lance kept trying to explain that he didn’t love the girl on the phone and he just didn’t know how to break it to her but I was not listening to his BS. I made him take me home and I haven’t answered his phone calls or text messages since. I thought about calling him last month when we were both home but Larissa told me he brought his girlfriend home. Are you serious?! One minute he doesn’t want to be with her and the next minute he is bringing her home to meet the family, Lance and I are done.

“Babe are you paying attention?” Chris asked snapping me out of my current thoughts. “Yes” I lied. I met Chris at a potluck dinner the school had. I was grabbing a coke out of the cooler when Chris grabbed the same can as me and he refused to let go! I started going on and on about chivalry not being dead to this stranger when I glanced up and saw those sparkling hazel eyes. “Chivalry doesn’t apply if I had the soda first” he said smiling at me and I swear my heart melted. “Um fine you take it” I said and walked away quickly. “Wait up” he said and jogged over to me. That’s when I got a good glance at him. He looked about six feet tall with dark brown hair and the nicest hazel eyes I’ve ever seen. He smiled and my heart fluttered at how breathtaking his smile was. I glanced down at his chest and saw the way his shirt hugged him, he definitely worked out. “Here” he said handing me the soda “you’re right chivalry isn’t dead.” I smiled “Thanks, I’m Kendra.” “Hey Kendra, I’m Chris” he said “so what did you bring?”

Since that night, Chris and I spoke nonstop. It was a relief because I needed a way to get Lance off my mind and Chris was the perfect distraction. Chris played basketball for the school and 22. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to hide my relationship with Chris. Chris was everything I looked for in a guy, he was Christian, smart, athletic, super sexy, and he treated me like a princess. But of course, he wasn’t Lance. But hey I had to get over Lance eventually and Chris and I were great together, my sister called us the interracial Ken and Barbie.

“I can’t believe you’re making me watch this” Chris said picking up a hand full of popcorn. I smiled “I love this movie.” It was my turn to pick a movie and yes unlike a typical girl I picked Lord of the Rings. “It’s three hours long babe!” Chris said shaking his head “Yes and like I said I love this movie. Now shut up, Legalis is speaking.” He smiled and went back to eating all the popcorn.

About an hour into the movie I heard a noise “What the hell is that?” I asked. “Chris?!” I pushed him a little. He jerked up “Huh? What happened?” he asked  whipping his eyes. “You fell asleep loser” I said and rolled my eyes. Then the noise came again. “What is that?” I asked he looked over and reached across the coffee table “It’s your phone babe.” “Oh” I said as I grabbed it from him.

I looked at my phone and I eyes widened “Hey, what u up to?” said a text from Lance. This could not be happening, I haven’t spoken to Lance in over six months and now all of the sudden he is texting me. I quickly sent a text “Watching Lord of the Rings” he responded almost instantly. I glanced up at Chris and saw him nodding off again “Yo I love those movies the two towers is my favorite one”. I smiled, I can’t believe after everything he could still manage to make me smile. I texted back “mine too, that’s the one I’m watching”. I looked at Chris one more time and he was knocked out, I rolled my eyes annoyed. I sent another text to Lance “How’s Tampa?” At this point I was no longer paying attention to the movie. “I’m in Tally for the week. Work meetings” he said, after reading that my heart skipped. “Oh ok” was all I responded. A few minutes passed until I received another message. “Lol so dinner tomorrow?”

I should really say no, Lance hurt me so much. He lied to me and he lead me on, we had nothing to talk about and I’m pretty sure Chris wouldn’t want me having dinner with another guy. “Pick me up @8” was my stupid response. Chris woke up towards the end of the movie “Oh damn I’m sorry baby” he said pulling me to his chest. “It’s ok” I said “I’m going to head back to my place it’s getting late. He stood up “Are you mad?” he asked looking genuinely concerned. “I’m good just tired” I lied. He walked me to the door and leaned in to kiss me. I pulled back after a few seconds and he looked hurt and confused “I’ll call you later” I said. “Ok want to go bowling tomorrow?” he asked smiling. “Um actually I’m meeting up with a few classmates for a study group, we have a huge chemistry test and we’ll probably be studying all night” I lied again. Lance was always making me lie, this isn’t healthy. Chris looked very sad as he opened the door for me “Oh ok well call me when you get home ok?” I forced a smile “Sure” I said and placed a kiss on his cheeks.

I walked to my car and sat in the parking lot for 10 minutes collecting my thoughts. Just then my phone buzzed again. I grunted and picked it up to see a text from Lance “Goodnight beautiful”. Nite” I responded then I threw my phone in my purse. FUCK.
