I’ve been really stressed out with midterms and I could not wait for a break. I sat in my living room with one of my roommates, Nala. She was studying for English midterm and I was studying for chemistry and Calculus. We had books all cross the coffee table and the couch and we were both in sweats and t-shirts with messy hair. When I looked like in the mirror on my way to the bathroom earlier, I looked like a zombie. My phone buzzed and I clicked open the message from Lance “Hey beautiful I know you studying but call me when you need a break.” I smiled and stood up from the couch “I’ll be back Nala” I said and headed upstairs to my room.
I dialed Lance’s number and a smile crept on my face when he answered. “That was quick” he laughed on the phone, I smiled “Ugh I needed a break 5 hours ago. What’s up?” “When will you be done studying?” he asked. “Um probably in an hour or two why?” I asked. “Well I’m in town” he said “You are?” I didn’t know Lance was coming to Tallahassee “Why are you here?” I asked. “Well I’m actually heading home for the weekend but I told everyone I was coming tomorrow night. So what do you say? Wanna move over tonight and share your bed?” a million thoughts flew through my minds at that time but the only thing I could picture is seeing Lance’s face again. “Of course” I said “I’ll be done studying in an hour.” “I thought you said two hours?” he laughed. I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me “Whatever.” “You hungry?” he asked. I laughed “I’m always hungry.” “Ok pick you up in an hour” he said. We talked for a few more minutes and then I went back to studying.
I could no longer focus on my work so I called it quits. “Hey Nala, I’m going out to eat with my friend ok and he’s gonna spend the night. You ok with that?” I didn’t really need Nala’s permission but I thought it was courteous to ask. “Yeah no problem love. Who’s your friend?” she asked still staring down at her book. “Just a friend from home he’s in town and wants to see me” I said and started heading upstairs before she asked any questions. “Ok have fun” she said.
I went upstairs and took a quick shower then I dressed in low rise, black skinny jeans and an off the shoulder floral top. I paired it with nude flats and let my hair fall down across my shoulders. I’ve never been one for makeup so I simply put some pink gloss. I walked downstairs to wait for Lance’s call. “You look pretty” Nala said looking up at me. I smiled “Thanks” I sat on the couch and waited. Lance called me about 10 minutes later telling me he was outside. I told Nala goodnight and headed towards the parking lot. I hopped in Lance’s car and his lips were on me in seconds “You look beautiful” he said in between kisses. “Thanks” I said and we continued kissing. I pulled away after a few minutes and smiled “Ok I really am hungry, can we go get food please” I said. He laughed “What do you want?” he asked. “Let’s go to TGI Fridays” I said and he pulled out the driveway.
We drove in a comfortable silence and I glanced down at Lance’s right hand which held on to mine as he drove with the left. His phone rang and he let go of my hand, he glanced at the number and ignored the call. I glanced over at him but didn’t comment. A few minutes passed and his phone rang again, he grunted and slowly lifted the phone to his ears and I noticed him attempt to turn the volume down. “Hey” he said in a quiet voice. Lance’s phone was loud and I heard a female’s voice on the line. “Hey baby!” she said excitedly, he once again tried to lower the volume but it didn’t work. “Hey, what’s up” he said “Nothing I miss you baby, where are you?” the voice said. Lance looked over at me and I turned my face to face the window, I can’t believe this is happening. “I’m in Tampa” he lied and I whipped my head towards him. He looked at me a weird expression on his face and continued his conversation with mystery girl. “Hey I’m busy right now I’ll call you back” he said. “Yeah, I love you too” he said the last part quietly. When he hung up the phone he reached back for my hand I yanked it away from him “Take me home Now!”
