My roommates agreed to go out with me and we all got dressed. I got dressed in a black romper that reached above my knees and I paired it with gold heels. I did my makeup and let my curly hair fall along my neck. I glanced in the mirror and smiled, I wasn’t going to let Chris ruin my birthday.
“You guys ready?” I asked walking downstairs. “Yes” they all answered and followed me. “Damn Kendra, you look sexy” Nala smiled coming up next to me. I smiled and handed her my phone, “can you take a picture please?” She snapped a few shots then handed me back my phone. I typed in Lance’s number and sent him the picture with a caption saying “I’m taking over tonight.” His response was almost immediate “Damn baby you killing me! You look amazing have fun.” I smiled, I planned on it. “Let’s go” I said and the girls and I headed out. Before pulling out of the driveway, I sent the picture to Chris. He called me instantly but I ignored the call. His text came after “where you going looking like that and with who???!!!!!” I shook my head and responded “Out with the girls…. For my birthday. Goodnight.” Then I turned my phone off.
The girls and I walked into the club and guys were instantly all around us offering to buy us drinks. We politely turned them down and walked to the corner to a small table. I walked over to the bar and got all the girls drinks and walked back to the table. “Why aren’t you out with Chris tonight?” Dawn asked taking a sip of her long island ice tea. I shrugged “he forgot.” They were all quiet for a moment then Nala asked “Are you sure he wasn’t trying to surprise you?” I laughed “Trust me Nala he forgot. But no more talk about Chris it’s my birthday and I want to have fun with you guys so here’s to an unforgettable night!” I said lifting my drink. They hesitated and lifted their drinks with me.
After a few hours of laughing, dancing and drinking, I was feeling buzzed and we decided to head home. Kayle drove home since she only drank soda all night. I turned my phone back on and I had 10 missed calls and 5 text messages from Chris. I rolled my eyes and texted Lance “on my way home now. OMG I had so much fun! I loveee yoooouuu baby!” He responded a few minutes after “LOL! Are you drunk baby?” “Yes sir! Lol” a few minutes later my phone chimed “get some sleep love. call me tomorrow, I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.”
I turned my phone off again and sighed “thanks again for coming out with me guys. We definitely need to do this again.” They all agreed “Uh oh” Dawn said as we pulled up to the driveway. I looked ahead to see what she was referring to and saw Chris standing with his arms crossed. “Ugh!”
“What do you want” I said when I got close enough to him. “Baby please let me explain.” “Nope I’m going to bed goodnight” I walked towards the door but stumbled. Chris had his arms around me in an instant. “I’m fine leave me alone!” I said. “You’re drunk” he said sounding disappointed. “Leave me alone” I said and walked inside the apartment. I ignored him as he followed me to my room. I removed my romper and grabbed my towel and headed to the shower, he could stay there all night if he wanted.
I emerged from the shower 10 minutes later and threw on an oversized shirt. Chris stood in the corner watching me but not saying anything. I finished getting dressed, I climbed in bed then reached over and turned off the light. I heard him grunt then I felt his weight on my bed “baby” he said touching my legs. “Don’t touch me Chris!” I said and pulled away.”Baby I am so so sorry I can’t believe I forgot your birthday.” I sighed and turned on the lights, I hadn’t realized I was crying. Chris reached over and wiped my face “I’ll make it up to you baby.” “Chris it’s not about that, you didn’t remember. How can you say you love me and forget my birthday?” he sighed “I know babe and I won’t make excuses just know I am so sorry and I will make it up.” I sighed “I’m tired, we’ll talk about this tomorrow.” “Can I spend the night?” he asked cautiously. I moved over “goodnight Chris.” He lied down and put his arm around me “Goodnight baby. I’m sorry. I love you.”
I closed my eyes and sleep took me instantly.
