"What?! You can't do this, Danny!"
Danny sighed, rubbing his temples with his thumbs, he slowly sat back down. He reaches for his tie and loosens it around his neck then unbutton a button. He finally opens his eyes, carefully looks at me then shifts his body forward and places his elbows on the desk. His eyes changed, "Cassidy, you've been in and out of your studio since you finished your tour. You need to get out-"
"I don't need to get out," I tell him, crossing my arms in front of my chest as I fell backward on my seat, bouncing a bit to the point I almost lost my balance, but I recovered. If he wants to be professional then so will I, "I recall telling you the moment I returned from my tour, I would be focusing on my next album. Need I remind you that it's been a full two years without releasing an album-- singles much less. My fans have been itching for new music, I need to focus or else I'll be forgotten-"
"No, you don't," Danny interrupts me. He sits up and props his elbows on the surface, "I understand that is your goal and you want to focus on that. However, I know you've even worked on songs in your spare time on tour. You've spent enough time focusing on this album, take a break. The combination of performing and traveling is extremely tiring, it took me years to get back to making music and going back on tour.
You've been stressing a lot from what I heard from Vanessa. Your friends are worried about you. You're not you anymore, you've been pushing everyone away. Where is the Cassidy Winters I signed so long ago?"
I sigh and put both of my arms on the chairs, sulking more in my seat. Despite showing my concern in focusing on my goal, it was not enough to convince him to let me do so. I watch him as he stares intently at me, over the years of working we have bumped heads often, but never like this.
"I'm forbidding you from entering your studio for six months. You've done a lot already and in need of rest. I know you're not fine," Danny tells me. He opens his laptop, "You can now go. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving with your family."
"But-"
"You're dismissed."
I silently get up, sling my bag on my right shoulder, and mumble a 'bye' to him before leaving the room. In a way, I wasn't sure if he was talking as my boss (which he should) or as my best friend's dad who is a fatherly figure to me. I walked down the small hall, quickly passing his assistant's desk, and then waited for the elevator. The bell dings and I enter the elevator, finally releasing the quiet, yet frustrating scream out of my system.
I understand everyone's concern, I shouldn't waste my frustration or whatever I'm going through with music that will only add another level of stress. But being stuck in a room where I feel have somewhat of control is more comforting than anywhere else.
The sound of the elevator's bell ding brings me back to reality, a cruel one. I walk out of the elevator and walk with the small crowd, exiting as quickly as I can without getting in the public's eye. I rushed through the parking lot, got in my car, and drove home. This is the first time I'm heading home earlier than usual, I should just spend time with Mom and plan a way to waste this precious time for the next couple of months.
"Mom, I'm home!" I announced, entering the house.
I hear laughter coming from the living room, setting down my things and removing my shoes, I make my way over there. As soon as I entered, Mom's back faced me, and across from her were the people I did not want to see at this moment. In general really. It was an odd scene to see, they never met my parents back when we were teens as almost any parental figure in my life was absent. Yet, behold my mom laughing at whatever was said before I entered the room with these men, and a wide smile spread on their lips, practically reaching their ears.
