It was devastating, the buildings that were broken and roads that were destroyed. Parts of the town were either scorched in fire or frozen in icy tombs. How could a trip that was supposed to be so harmless end up being a bringer of such chaos. Well, like any adventure, our story begins when our heroes arrived in Rane's home town. It was a school trip but Rane had made plans to break away from the group to go visit his family. He had already gotten the ok from Ms. Nekonome so there was nothing to stop Rane from having a carefree visit. He arrived back home and knocked on the door, waiting until his foster mother Kasumi answered and welcomed him with a warm hug.
Kasumi: Rane! I knew you said you'd be visiting but I was worried something might cause a change of plans.
Rane: Something like what?
Kasumi: Do I really need to recall the stories you've told me regarding your first year?
Rane: Nope you're right, never mind.
Kasumi: Now get in here, you must be starving!
Rane: Yeah, I could eat.
Rane entered and Kasumi prepared a one of his favorite meals. As they ate and recalled their history, eventually Rane's cousin Kyoko joined them to Rane's surprise.
Kyoko: well look who's back. How's school going champ?
She patted Rane's back as if they were best friends who hadn't seen each other in years.
Rane: Good, if you count being attacked by demons and monsters almost daily.
Kyoko: Seriously Rane, I thought you were out of your emo rock phase. Will you ever grow up? Anyway, I'm going out to hang with some friends.
Kasumi: Be back before dark.
Kyoko: I know!
And with that she then left leaving Rane glaring at his mother.
Kasumi: I forgot to tell her.
Rane: How do you forget to tell someone that your cousin might have a demon of raging hellfire sealed within his body.
Kasumi: How do you bring that up in a conversation?
Rane: Kyoko, your cousin might have a demon of raging hellfire sealed within his body.
Kasumi: Stop making things sound like is so simple!
Rane: She's mature enough to handle it.
Kasumi: I wasn't mature enough to handle it! You needed to prove to me that you had everything under control!
Rane: Which I did.
Kasumi: I know.....It's just, still hard to believe. More times than not hope every night that the day you told me about this ghost rider was a dream and that you were living in a normal school. Not one full of monsters.
Rane: I sometimes wish that too but its been better to me than I thought.
Kasumi: I know, you should invite those friends of yours over. I'd love to thank them in person for all the help they've given you.
Rane: Another day mom. Mind if I hang out in my room a bit?
Kasumi: Go on ahead. I kept it from collecting dust for you.
Rane: You're the best.
Rane dashed up to his room eager to see it the way he had it before leaving and when he opened the door, all the peaceful memories he had there came flooding back to him and he loved it. It was rare that Rane had a place where he could be undisturbed and keep to himself. He missed that, being away at Yokai Academy. He took a moment to sit down on his bed which, for some reason, it looked like the pillows were placed vertical but Rane didn't mind. He was just happy to be back home and took a big breath of fresh air as he patted down his bed. That was when Rane decided to think that those weren't pillows. They were too firm and too warm, a sensation he was too familiar with. It was then that Rane proceeded to light his hand on fire and punch the center of the "pillows" very hard.
