Five long years na kaming magka-trabaho sa Simple Joys, a lifestyle show that features anything under the sun - personalities, places, food, events, kahit ano yatang pwedeng itanong sa Pinoy Henyo, na-tackle na namin. Basta puro good vibes lang. Naniniwala din kasi yung boss namin na life is supposed to be simple, but people choose to make it complicated.
Kaya ang vision namin is to make people see the good side of life, whether in people, places or things.
Pumasok ako sa opisina ng boss ko.
"Hi Ms. Joy!", I greeted.
"Hi baby girl!
With a smile on her face, Ms. Joy handed me an envelope.
"Open it. It's going to be your new project.", she said.
"La Union?", I blurted out.
Oh my gosh!!! Totoo ba 'to?!
For the longest time ay puro personalities ang na-aassign sa akin. Marami na akong na-interview na tao from all walks of life. Ewan ko nga eh. Noong bata ako, ayokong nakikipag-usap sa tao. Who would've thought that I would land on this profession?
Hindi naman nagbago yung pagiging introvert ko. Kaya lang when my first interview (which was with the vice president) shot up the ratings of the show, sa akin na in-assign ng boss namin lahat ng ganoong klaseng features.
Eh hello? That time I was left with no choice kasi biglang nagkasakit yung kasama kong interviewer eh dadalawa kami nun sa project. Kaya ako na camerawoman eh naging host in an instant.
Actually twenty years na yata akong di nakakauwi doon but whatever. I won't let this chance slip, and so I nodded my head.
"Matagal mo nang ni-rerequest sa akin to give you a travel feature. So there. This is your chance.", Ms. Joy said.
"Thank you, thank you, Ms. Joy!"
Most of our travel features are structured the way video blogs are, para dama pa rin ng audience yung pagiging candid nung experience. Trained din kami to film scenes kasi nga under-staffed kami when the show started. All-around talaga. Pero si Dawn, expertise niya talaga yung conceptualization and script writing.
But I prefer otherwise. And this is my chance to prove na excellent din ako sa area na 'to.
"I'm happy to see you excited, Des. Pero first page pa lang nakikita mo.", bigla niyang sabi.
What???
Chineck ko agad yung envelope at nilabas yung isa pang papel. And to my horror, I'm also tasked to do an interview with the governor!
"Sorry, Des. But these two features go together. Pupunta ka na rin lang ng La Union, might as well find out from the main man kung anong reason ng pag-boom ng tourism nila, right?"
"Miss, alam ko na po yung sagot. Yung San Juan po talaga."
Twenty years ago, halos walang tao sa dagat doon. But I've heard that people are now going there to surf.
"Still. Interesting fact pa rin that their governor is the youngest one in the country. More than that, he doesn't like doing interviews. Kahit Lifestyle Asia, tinanggihan niya. So let's take it as a challenge. I'm giving you a month to explore La Union AND to interview Governor Kirell Brahndon Montalbo."
Emphasis talaga sa word na 'and'. As if naman may magagawa ako, diba?
"If you do this well, Desiree... I promise you, this will be the last time na ma-aassign ka sa politician. You will even have the privilege to choose the projects you like. And who knows? Kung maging maganda ang feedback sa feature na 'to, I might just give you the department head position for cinematography."
OH MY GOSH!!! Goodbye, limelight!
"I'll keep that in mind, Miss. Thank you po."
I went out of the office and made my way back to my workstation.
"Ano bes, kumusta?", Dawn asked, smiling.
"Ikaw may pakana nito 'no?"
"Oo. So saan mo ako i-lilibre?"
"Hay nako. Sa buffet sana kung walang kasamang interview eh.", I said.
Keribels mo yan 'no!", Dawn said.
"Chinicheer mo ba ako para i-libre kita?"
"Grabe ka!! Pero pwede rin.", she laughed.
"Gwapo kaya 'to?
Kaya ko 'to.
Humanda ka, Mr. Montalbo. Wala pa yatang umaatras kay Des Cheng.
Author's Note:
gustuhin ko mang gawing negros ang setting nito eh wala naman akong alam doon :( so i-feafeature ko na lang ang aking beautiful home province of la union :D no expectations! ^^
