This got published as a separate story, but actually was supposed to part of this book. Whoops.
I seriously cannot stand ignorant people. People who will refuse the facts and will not listen. They make me very mad.
These are the people who will trust some insane, lying "news" reporter over hard facts - like statistics. Or as they might say - "liberal media".
They get all worked up about something that doesn't even exist and go nuts when they are told that they are wrong.
Like gun control.
Gun control = universal background checks. If you are mentally ill or were in jail, you can't own a gun.
What (ignorant) people think = THEY ARE TAKING ALL OUR GUNS!! AMERICA IS RUINED! WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR FREEDOM! Yada, yada, yada...
All it takes is a few people with a crowd. The few people (media) hear something, twist the words to create the meaning that will get the biggest reaction, and BOOM. Ignorance is born.
Those people, the followers, will believe in whatever the masterful media gods tell them. (Fox News). Health care = DEATH PANELS in their eyes.
But we just lap it up.
Why?
Why can't we see that making sure a consumer is not mentally ill or an ex-convict before they buy a lethal weapon is not the same as the government breaking down your door at night to take your hard-earned guns away?
I have a friend like this. We agree on many issues, but on gun control, not so much.
He believes that the gun control ("taking away all our weapons") is the first step to genocide, the end of our nation, and the end of our rights. He has found out about the "pen gun" which you don't have to get a permit for or have a background check taken. Just so that he can escape "the system".
It's not illegal. (Just so you know).
So, to answer my question. We eat this false information up because we don't question what we are given. We don't hesitate and think, "You know, that just doesn't seem right."
"Obama wants to kill all elderly citizens!"
"Oh okay, makes sense."
"They are going to rob you of your rights with background checks!"
"I've gotta be prepared for when they come. Let me get my guns..."
You see?
I just.... UGH.
Last semester, I studied civics. In civics, we learned that you have all of your rights except when they must be compromised for the safety of others or if you get arrested. The SAFETY. OF. OTHERS.
Making sure that someone who is mentally disturbed doesn't have a gun. For the safety of others. That is not against our rights!
I don't understand how people can listen to insane theories and think that they are more rational than the facts. Do they want to hear something crazy and something to get them fired up?
I bet that's it. The media knows that they will get a reaction if they say certain things. Things that get people riled up. Things that make people almost blind to the truth and create more problems than solutions.
This blindness is what causes so much problems.
People don't realize that religion and our government are completely separate things, so people's rights get taken away.
People don't see that global warming is a fact, so we do nothing about our environment.
