Lucas and I stayed for dinner tonight then planned on going home. My dad pulled me aside for a short walk down the road while Lucas stayed inside helping my mom with dinner. My dad and I walked down the road seeing what we could. I listened and heard all of the old country noises I miss so much, and the sun setting on the beautiful hills looks absolutely florid. I could hear the frogs chirping in ponds and the crickets strumming their long black legs and fireflies floated by our heads.
"You don't love him the way you think you do Rina."
His statement surprised me and I stopped for a moment. I'm surprised that I'm not fighting for this but in reality. I don't love Lucas the way I think I do. My dad is right... He's always right.
"Why do you say that?"
I asked stepping foreword again.
"The way you look at each other. You don't beam at him he way you beamed at he-who-shall-not-be-named and the way you beam when you talk about this Grey character. It seems to me that Lucas is more infatuated with you. I think you should address this Rina."
I nodded and we walked.
"I guess so yeah. I will. I kind of agreed to meet his family though."
"You should do it before then Rina. You know better."
It's amazing how my dad can pick how I've been feeling and thinking without even knowing myself. I'm a maze and my father is the only one who knows how to get to the finish.
"Sorry."
We went back home in silence and darkness lingering on the porch an extra minute looking at the stars. Inside I heard a familiar voice... A voice I hate.
I rounded the corner and seen a familiar face.
"What is he doing here?"
My mom blushed and came quickly up to me.
"Honey I know you resent him but he's still family."
My brother came up close to me.
"Forget the past sister. I'm safe now, and I won't hurt you or anybody else ever again. I need you."
I stepped back closer to my dad.
"Oh for Gods sake Rina would you give it up? He's asking for forgiveness and apologizing if you can't handle that then why did you come home anyway?"
My mom yelled at me.
"You invited me! And I wouldn't have come had I known I was being set up to make amends with the most horrible person in my life!"
I turned around to face my dad. Tears were starting to sting my eyes.
"Honey I had no idea."
Relief crossed my chest, not enough to calm me down though.
"Lucas pack your bags. We're leaving as soon as possible."
"Rina dear don't be ridiculous. You aren't going to leave."
I turned around and faced my mother. I got close to her face.
"Mom you don't even know okay? You've got no idea what my inferences are... You never will. I'm leaving."
She stayed quiet and I turned to walk to the back of the house to pack up my things and Lucas followed me.
"Why are we leaving?"
He asked.
"Because I can't be here any longer."
I explained never stopping my packing up. It was a quick job since I had only packed for a couple of days.
