A NEW BEGINNING

While the kids were away at camp, Cordell and I decided we should start searching for a bigger house. Our home was starting to feel small and the boys were getting older and needed more space, and my husband desired an in home studio. I had more money than Dell did due to my book sells and Xavier Sr. assets that I acquired after his death. Even after equally dividing Xavier Sr. assets amongst me and my children and placing their money in a trust fund for them I had a little bit over $1,180,000 but Dell had a very admirable $604,000 in the bank. He had been rapping for 2 years and he made 10 thousand a show. Furthermore, he was living with his parents when we met so he had been saving. Both our cars were totally paid for and we used cash for all of our purchases. We were doing well financially.

The house that we were living in, the one that I already owned when we met, was worth 550 thousand and it was completely paid for. We figured that we could find a spacious 6-bedroom house in our area for $750,000 leaving us to pay $200,000 out of pocket, provided that our current home would sell for the asking price. Cordell called Lowell and told him not to book any more shows until he decided to perform again. Lowell wasn't pleased with Cordell's decision. Dell continued to drop music on social media to keep his fans hungry. We put our house on the market and we started looking for another home. He wanted to have the new house purchased by the time the boys came home from camp.

Within a week we had several offers on our home and we found an ideal place that had 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and it was 2,600 square feet bigger than our current home. It didn't have a deck but it had a swimming pool and a pool house. Although we wanted 6 bedrooms we were content with the 5-bedroom house we found because it was so beautiful. The entire house was a remodel and the kitchen and master bathroom was twice the size of our current home, we couldn't afford to pass up an offer like that. To sweeten the deal, it was 25 thousand dollars less than what we intended to pay and Dell decided to pay the $175,000.
We were able to purchase the new home and we accepted the highest bid on our house. Our real estate agent worked really hard to make the process go fast and it did.

Two and a half weeks before camp was scheduled to end we moved into our new house. We had talked to the boys a couple of times and neither of us mentioned anything to them. The new house put us much closer to Dell parents home and I was within 2 miles from Kassidy's house. We hired professional movers because I was exhausted and I didn't want to move a thing. Dell wanted the basement to resemble an apartment for Zay. Dell felt like Zay was old enough to stay in the basement by himself and I agreed. Cordell also turned the pool house into a studio. We got the property so cheap because the owners moved to California, so they sold the house that we purchased for way less than what it was worth. We paid $725,000 for the house and it was easily worth over 1 million dollars. The owners wanted the process to be painless.

When we got everything moved into the house it took us two weeks to christen it, we had sex in every single room. Nobody ever told me that buying a house would be so much fun. Dell and I had a bedroom, Valente had a room, I had an office and we also made one of the bedrooms a guest room. Zay had the entire basement to himself. The fifth bedroom was mostly used for storage. We had more room than we needed.

When we went to get the boys from camp we hardly talked the whole way home. Zay was always so observant so he said "you guys are acting so weird". When we pulled up to our new house Dell said "I have someone I want you guys to meet". He pretended that the house belonged to a friend. We got out of the car and walked into the house. When we walked through the front door Zay hugged me and Dell and said "thank you guys. If you want to keep something a secret DO NOT post it on social media". I said "Dell" to which he replied, "I forgot, I was happy". Valente said "you guys are the coolest parents" and Zay said, "where is my room?" Dell walked him to the basement and I showed Valente his room.

When I walked Valente to his room he said "I'm so glad you and Step found each other" then he looked at me and said, "I'm going to check out the basement and get my camp stuff out of Step's truck". I just stood there and Dell came into Valente's room and said "you okay?" I said, "as always, I'm instantly better when you come around". We enjoyed our day talking with the kids about sport's camp in our new home.
