Alex

First day of school. First day back, wow. I was scared and nervous. A text then came in,

You're gonna have an amazing first day back as a senior I believe in you! MAKE SOME FRIENDS SHOW THEM YOUR THE BEST THING THERE IS

I laughed at Justin's message. We've still been talking through text and FaceTime. I wish he was here but this is the next best thing. I wore something really pretty since it's the first day back and I want to make friends. I wore skinny black ripped jeans with a black tank top under a red jersey. I then put on my black vans, curled my hair, and put on some light makeup like eyeliner and mascara. I added lipgloss then took a picture in the mirror sending it to Justin.

How many friends could I make looking like this?

All of them. You look amazing.

I smiled. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before going downstairs. My mom was letting me take her car to school today and I was really happy about that. Pulling up in style on the first day is a win win. I ate a small breakfast with my parents then was on my way. I was beginning to get more and more nervous but I knew I'd make it through. My new schedule looked pretty good, I just hoped I didn't have any classes with Zoey or her little possy. I sighed once I pulled up to the school. I parked in the student parking lot and got out the car with phone and book bag. Here goes nothing. I walked into school and saw lots of people yelling and screaming once they saw their friends and all. I didn't really have anyone to yell and scream at. I walked down the hallway occasionally smiling at people that seemed nice then got to my locker. I started filling it up with some stuff when a tap was felt on my shoulder. I turned around and saw a girl looking very lost.

"Oh hey." I said turning to smile.

"Hi! I'm Emma and I'm new here. Can you help me out I'm trying to find D101." She said handing me her schedule.

"Hey I'm Alex and I have that class too. It's biology, the teachers really chill. We can walk together if you want?" I said hoping she'd say yes.

"Yeah that'd be awesome thanks." She said smiling. I closed my locker and picked up my book bag. When I was about to walk with Emma 4 pairs of feet walked through the door. Zoey, Alexandria, Ethan, and Sean. Zoey on Sean's arm and Alexandria on Ethan's. I quickly turned away from them not wanting to watch any longer.

"This way." I said to Emma. We started walking in the direction of the class.

"So where are you from?"

"Kansas. My dad got a last minute job so we had to move here immediately which sucks because it's senior year." She said letting out a deep huff, "It's supposed to be a great year ya know and now I'm like.. the new girl."

"Hey it won't be so bad. Your senior year can still be amazing! Just find the right friends- lucky for you, I'm also in the market for friends."

"Your new too?" She asked.

"No. I just lost my bestfriend to a completely different group of people so." I said not wanting to talk about it much.

"Aw I'm sorry." Emma said sadly, "How about we stick together? We can make our own group- a better group!"

"That's the best thing I've heard all morning." I said laughing.

We got into class and took a seat in the back. We took the free time to get to know each other when a boy came and sat in the back next to Emma.

Emma turned, "Hey!"

"Hey." He said smiling turning to face us both.

"Max right?" I said recognizing him, "You were in my math class last year."

"Yeah!" He said clearly remembering me too, "I sat behind you and Zoey."

"Yeah." I said smiling, "How was your summer?"

"Good! Great! How was yours? You went AWOL!"

"Yeah I've never really been one to post much on social media but it's been good. Hey this is Emma she's new."

"Hey Emma I'm Max."

Emma turned to face me, "It's only first period and I'm already making new friends."

"Making friends isn't as hard as it seems." I said now realizing that.

I got happy until 2 unwanted faces entered. Zoey and Ethan. My face turned slightly red.

Max turned, "Oh hey there's Zoey." He said smiling. Once he saw her look at me then look away he looked at me, "Everything okay with you two?"

"Yeah we're not friends anymore." I said watching her sit on the other side of the room, "I needed better friends anyway."

"Yikes." Max commented, "That's gonna be weird- not seeing you and Zoey together."

"You'll get used to it." I laughed.

"Hey what's your next class?" Emma asked Max.

"Math." He answered, "You?"

"Same." Emma said smiling, "We can walk there together. What's your next class Alex?"

"Science." I groaned, "What lunch do you guys have maybe we can all meet up?"

"A lunch."

"A lunch."

"A lunch."

"Great!" Emma squealed, "So I guess we'll all reunite again at lunch."

"Sounds good." I said turning back around in my desk as I heard the bell ring. I looked to my side and saw Zoey and Ethan laughing. I mistakingly made eye contact. She stared at me for a split second then turned back around. I let out a deep breath, this is gonna be great.

My classes were really good. I had 2 classes with Emma and 3 with max. Sadly, I had 3 with Zoey and 2 with Ethan. And hey guess what? Alexandrias in my science class yay! Lucky me. But I think I'll be okay. I saw Emma and Max sitting at a table with their trays. I brought my lunch so I joined them.

"Hey! How have your classes been?" Max asked chewing his sandwich.

"Really good actually. I think this is gonna be a good year." I said opening my lunch box, "How about you Emma?"

"Really good! I think I'll do just fine here." She said smiling.

"That's great." I said smiling. Surprise surprise it was quickly wiped off when I saw Zoey, Alexandria, Zoey, and Sean sit at the table next to us. I turned away rolling my eyes.

"What happened between you guys?" Emma asked curiously.

"She'd rather be friends with popular people rather than the one who's been there for her through everything so her loss." I said unwrapping my sandwich, "Better no friends than fake friends right?"

"Yeah but you've got us." Max said smiling, "We would never join popular people, mostly because they'd probably never notice us." He laughed.

"What even makes them popular?" Emma asked curiously, "Aren't they just regular people like us?"

"Not to them they aren't." I said looking over at Zoey laughing at Sean, "Sometimes being popular just means everyone knows your name."

"I'm fine without being popular." Emma said, "Everyone doesn't need to know my name."

"Agreed." Max said finishing off his sandwich.
