Alex

Justin and I danced for what seemed like hours but prom was only getting started. We've only been here an hour.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom. I'll meet you at our table." I yelled over the music. Justin nodded letting me free. I went to the bathroom to make sure I wasn't sweating out or anything, because it was beginning to get hot. Yep, I'm definitely out of shape. I walked into the bathroom and I've never felt so awkward. Zoey, Alexandria, and Emma, all standing there in the mirror, looking at me. I swallowed a lump.

Zoey slightly smiled, and I gave her one back.

"Having fun?" Zoey said breaking the silence.

"Yeah. So far it's great." I said, now cueing the silence.

I stood awkwardly, "Just came to fix myself." I said slowly walking to the mirror.

"That dress." I heard Alexandria say, "I remember that."

"Yeah I bet." I said not making eye contact, "You said I could never pull it off, and that I'd look like a fat cow."

"I was wrong." She choked out, "You look beautiful. Really."

I was shocked. I turned to her, "Thanks. I guess your dress is kinda nice too."

She laughed, "I know it's not easy to compliment me but.. thanks."

I looked over to Emma who still didn't look at me. I sighed, she just stared in the mirror pretending I wasn't there.

"Well I'm gonna go." I said walking out. That was.. interesting. I pushed through the loads of people trying to get to Justin at the table when I bumped into Max. Yay, I'm just bumping into all my old friends aren't I? Max looked up and realized it was me, "Alex." He said with a small smile, "Hey."

"Hi." I said itching my arm.

"I saw Justin over there and started wondering where you were." He said with an awkward chuckle.

"Here I am." I said with a small laugh.

He let out a sigh, "You look amazing."

"And you don't look too bad yourself." I said fixing his collar.

"I try I try." He joked.

"Excuse me." I heard. I turned and saw Emma standing, "Max, let's dance." She said pushing past me. I almost tripped due to my heels but thankfully caught my balance. She pulled Max away before either of us could say anything. I rolled my eyes and fixed myself, nope. Not gonna ruin my night.

I found Justin at the table talking to some random people I didn't know, but hey at least he wasn't bored. I sat down next to him and the people soon spread apart.

"Making friends?" I laughed.

"Something like that." He said, "I talked to Max."

"So did I. What'd you guys talk about?"

"Nothing really. Just shocked that I was here."

"Everyone is." I laughed, "But hey, I'm starving, let's hit the food table." I said excitedly.

"I'm in." He said grabbing my hand. We then went to the food table, got food, and ate for about 10 people. Thankfully I didn't stain my dress, and Justin didn't stain his tux. We talked and laughed and I was so happy that he was here with me. I'm so lucky to have him. A slow song then started playing just as we finished up our food.

"I wanna dance but I don't know if my stomach will agree." I said rubbing my stomach, probably looking fat.

"We'll hit the next one." Justin said obviously being stuffed too.

"Hey, have I ever told you how much I love you? Like seriously, how much money do you waste coming to see me?"

"Doesn't matter. I'd spend all the money in the world if it meant I got to be with you."

I looked down blushing, "And so would I."

"Alex I know I can't always be here when you need me, and sometimes things go wrong, and we get mixed feelings on where we stand. But I want you to know I will always be here for you." He said lightly taking my hand in his, "No matter what."

"I have no doubt in my mind that that's not true. Always and forever right."

"Always and forever." He said squeezing my hand, "Now, I'd really like to dance with you." He said standing up.

"Your wish is my command." I said standing up. We made our way onto the dance floor and I gladly wrapped my arms around his neck as he placed his on my waist.

"You know.. summers coming up pretty soon." He stated.

"Yeah.. so." I said wondering where he was leading to.

"I have this weird thought of us getting away.. like just the two of us.. all summer." He said looking down at me.

"I could see that. Like a summer romance." I said with a smile.

"You just read my mind." He smirked.

"Yeah, it'd be fun to spend time with you carefree and enjoying the world before I enter New York as a freshie."

Justin stopped dancing, "What?"

"I mean I will be in college. It's hard right?" I said trying to hide my huge smile just bursting to come out.

"You said a freshie.. in New York."

"Oh! Yeah did I forget to mention? I'm moving to New York." I said all care free like. Justin's eyes widened, "What? Alex Walker don't play with me."

"I might've got into Marymount college which happens to be exactly 27 minutes away from NYU which.. GASP, don't you go to NYU?" I asked acting all shocked like.

"You're moving to New York! You're gonna be with me, in New York!" He yelled.

"Surprise!" I shouted finally letting my excitement go.

"I thought you were staying in Atlanta to go to SCAT?" He asked.

"I was! But then I realized.. I wanted to be closer to you."

"You gave up SCAT for me?"

"Marymounts way better anyway." I said with a smile. Justin grabbed me pulling me into a huge hug. I squeezed him happily. He let go and looked me into my eyes, "I love you." He said, catching me off guard a little. But I didn't even care, "I love you too."

"Y'know what? It took everything in me to contain myself tonight but fuck it." He said grabbing my waist smashing our lips together. It was sudden, but so worth it. As we kissed I felt so happy to be in his arms, to be loved, and to just have his company. I can see a really bright future for us, one that I've only dreamed of us ever having. I guess dreams do come true.
