This one's for Galen. He knows who he is...
I see you sitting there;
You're alone,
Like you always seem to be.
I ask you if there's a
Reason you're by yourself.
You say there is.
You don't offer anything more,
And I don't ask.
But as I leave
Your voice stops me.
It's not so much what you said
As the way you said it.
You speak quietly,
Your voice so soft
That I don't hear you.
Not at first.
I have the odd feeling that
I'm talking to you
Through a wall of glass.
I've felt this way before,
During the few moments with
You that I've had.
You're always there,
Right beside me,
But part of your attention
Is elsewhere.
Perhaps cast inward
On your own thoughts.
Perhaps cast outward
On something only you can see.
You seem so distant,
Almost untouchable
Behind your wall of glass.
But I've seen other people
Talk to you through the glass.
I see you talk to them.
I see you smile,
I see you laugh,
And I see you joke.
But you're on your side of
Your wall of glass.
And no one is ever there but you.
I can't help but
Wonder why...
Why are you always alone?
You don't have to be,
I know this;
I can see it.
Yet you choose to
Remain on your side of
Your wall of glass.
I don't mind it;
That's who you are.
Still, I wonder...
Would you let someone
Onto your side of
Your wall of glass?

PoetryIf you're one of those folks that think that all poems need to rhyme, I'm sorry. In any case, this is a simple collection of poems. A few of them rhyme. But most of them don't.
