We were young,
Running over green grass
And climbing trees.
We were playing games
And living daydreams.
We slayed the beasts
Of our imaginations,
Saving the world
One childish song at a time.
That's when everything changed,
And you left.
Though you weren't fully gone.
We were drifting through time
And over trivial vast distances.
We weren't always going the same direction.
We still played together,
We still lived our fantasies.
Yet everything was different.
We knew we were growing up,
Though we didn't like to think about it.
Now we're here,
And you're leaving again.
This time you're leaving your childhood behind,
Perhaps for good.
You're stepping into the next
Chapter of your life.
You're taking your place in
The real world.
But I'll still be here
When you're gone.
So before you go I want you to
Promise you'll remember me
When you're gone.
Promise you'll remember
The short, brown-haired girl next door.
The one you used to play with everyday.
Promise you'll remember
The short, brown-haired teenager
Who was obsessed with old movies,
And who was always asking
If you'd heard one song or another.
I'm still who I am,
Though I'm not who I used to be.
Promise you'll remember
Who I was
And who I am.
And I'll promise to remember
That tall, blonde girl
With the secret hideout in the lilacs.
The one who always knew
Something I didn't.
And I'll promise to remember
The young woman
I always wanted to meet
But never wanted to see.
I know I'll see you again,
And you'll see me.
But we won't be who we are now.
And that's okay,
That's alright.
Just promise you'll remember me
And I promise I'll remember you.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this on Wattpad or not. This one is very personal to me, and honestly I'm still not sure I'll leave it up. But this one's for Kryssy, because I'm not ready to say good bye just yet.

PoetryIf you're one of those folks that think that all poems need to rhyme, I'm sorry. In any case, this is a simple collection of poems. A few of them rhyme. But most of them don't.
