I am the Thief,
But you don't know that.
I am the cause of lost things,
But you don't know that, either.
You don't know that
Because you never have.
You don't know it when I
Take the cookie you swore
You never actually ate.
You don't know it when I
Steal your car keys and
Put them somewhere else
For you to find.
It is very fun to stand
Next to you while you search
For things I have taken or moved.
You don't know I'm there,
You can't see me.
You never have
And you never will.
I am the Dark,
But you don't know that.
I am the one that makes you stumble,
But you don't know that, either.
You don't know that
Because you never have.
You don't know it when I
Short out your lightbulbs
While you read at night.
You don't know it when I
Stick my foot out
Just far enough for your toes
To catch on mine.
You think you must've
Tripped on a ripple in the rug,
Or maybe your own feet.
I laugh at your embarrassment.
You don't know I'm there,
You don't hear me.
You never have
And you never will.
I am the Thief in the Dark,
But you don't know that.
I am the Dark that hides the Thief,
But you don't know that, either.
You don't know that
Because you never have.
You never have
And you never will.
