I wasn't at all surprised to hear the horribly familiar voice of Dr Miller boom through the stadium as soon as I shut my eyes. "Congratulations, children. Only one person has died today so far, and I have to say I was expecting a lot more. Now, it's time for us to have some fun! Everyone must be at the centre of the arena in 10 minutes, or you will be killed. No killing until then, or you will also die. At least one of you will die at the end of our fun little game. Your ten minutes starts now."
I turned to face Berry and the twins, my eyes wide. We had to run if we wanted to make it.
"I've already got our stuff ready," said Gracie. "I distributed our belongings between us so that if we get separated, we should all be alright for a while." I nodded - it was a smart move and I accepted my backpack from her.
"Good, but we need to run," I said. When nobody did anything, I said "Right now."
Ah, that got me results. All three girls took off and I trailed behind them, every so often amusing myself by stomping on cameras that I saw.
I should make destroying technology a part time job, seeing how I seemed to be exceptionally good at it.
My thoughts had slowed me down more than I thought. Looking up I noticed that the twins and Berry were a few hundred metres ahead of me. Seriously how did they get so far in front of me? Even after all the experiments i was still somewhat fit yet three girls managed to run ahead of me in no time. I must be day dreaming way too much.
I had to sprint to catch up to them, sadly missing the opportunity to crush a few cameras underfoot. Once I caught up to them, we ran for a couple more minutes, arriving at our destination within the 10 minute time limit.
Breathing in deeply, I looked around to see how many other people were here. Sure enough, the last few teenagers entered the tree lines only seconds after us, just as a loud horn started blaring, forcing everyone to cover their ears.
In that short period of time, the doctor's face flashed up in the middle of the clearing most likely from a hidden projector somewhere amongst the trees. He had changed into formal attire, making himself look more professional. In the background, assistants were rushing around and then to the right and slightly further from the screen was my older brother, Dan, who was now no more than an expressionless slave.
