Chapter 5
The taxi arrived and took us out past the suburbs toward the country. After about 45 minutes the taxi pulled up in front of a tall brick fence.
"You live here?"
"Yes. I do." Zeke responded.
"All alone?" We got out of the taxi.
"I have a loft here." He said leading me through a metal gate into a fruit orchard. The front yard was like no other. A four story mansion sat a one half of a mile from the fence. Fruit trees lined the front of the property. Willow trees made a shady archway all the way up to the mansion's front door. There were no cars in sight. They must have parking in some other area. The drive way was made of smooth red clay. If I looked hard enough I could see a large ware house in the background of the mansion. The estate seemed to stretch on and on for miles.
"What is this place?" I asked.
"It's my home." He said simply.
After walking for a while we finally arrived at the front door. Zeke turned to me with a serious look on his face.
"Adena, do you trust me? I would never hurt you." He said seriously.
My heart hit my stomach. Something was wrong. The burning sensation was back.
The front door opened before I could answer him. A tall Asian man dressed in a black suit yanked Zeke through the door at unusually strong and fast motion. The front door slammed. One minute Zeke was standing beside me and literally 3 seconds later he was gone and the front door was shut. I was stunned. I didn't know what to do? Should I knock on the door? SLAM! The next thing I knew I was face down on the wooden porch. I got up quickly and into a fighters stance. A tall blond girl stood directly in front of me. Something wasn't quite right about her. She could be a model or a movie star with her long legs and gorgeous looks. I looked at her hands. I now knew what was off about her. Her fists were made of what looked like titanium. I thought this cannot be happening at the same time she sucker punched me in my stomach. I lurched forward with my hands holding my stomach. I know that witch did not just hit me! The burning sensation had already spread to my arms and legs. I was on the edge. My heart felt like it was about to explode. A small pop sounded in the air and burning sensation lessened. I felt warm and comfortable in my own skin. Finally a voice in my head whispered to me. I stood up straight. The girl was standing a few feet away from me with shocked look on her face. When she noticed me staring at her she started toward me. I put my burning fists up. Burning? I looked at arms, they were on fire. So were my legs and the rest of my body. The tips of my hair was even smoldering. What is happening to me? My attacker was seconds away from continuing her purpose. A fire ball was dancing in the palm of my hand. I threw it like a baseball hitting the girl right in the chest. She flew back up against the mansion making a large crack against the brick wall. Her shirt was on fire and she was unconscious. Oh my God. Did I just do that? The Asian man reappeared with a fire extinguisher. He extinguished the girl and zoomed away with her. 4 seconds he reappeared with the fire extinguisher. He hit me with the cold foam. I sputtered "What the hell". A woman walked through the front door clapping.
"Well done Adena!" She said with a proud glint in her eyes.
I trying using the tail end of my shirt to wipe the foam away, but it was useless. I was covered with the nasty smelling retardant from head to toe. I managed to get a better look at the woman. She was very petite and round. She reminded me of a fairy. She had her brown hair cut into a bob and she seemed to give off a glow. Her brown eyes smiled back at me. I realized I had been staring and averted my gaze to the speedy Asian that now had reappeared. The man had a unsual eye color for his race. I peered into his silver eyes. Sleepiness hit me like a ton of bricks. As I started to crumple to the floor I heard a feminie voice say, "Welcome Adena! We have been waiting on you." I faded into the darkness.
