Chapter 8

Standing behind me was a fairly normal looking guy with one feature that stood out. He was basically vibrating with energy. You could almost see the energy running around him in a pale cloud. We made eye contact, his smirk reached his clear blue eyes.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I’m Alex, and you are?” He asked.

“My name is Adena and I don’t like people putting their hands on me.” I said narrowing my eyes at him.

Alex ran his gold hand through his hair and chuckled. “You’re too cute to not touch. Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”

“Was it hard climbing from the pits of hell?” I retorted.

Laughing again, he said. “Well you’re quite refreshing. I’m guessing since I haven’t seen you around that you’re new?”

“I am, I was about to explore the campus. This is all a little overwhelming. I mean I didn’t even know I had a special ability. This all seems like a movie. I’ve never even heard of this school, before Zeke brought me here.” I said.

“Zeke? You know Zeke Cantakous?” He said, his blue eyes darkening.

“Um, yeah. He actually recruited me… Kinda. He was the EMT that responded to our house fire.” I mumbled.

“Your house fire?”

“It’s a long story. I wanted to wonder around before dinner time so I need to go. It was nice meeting you, keep your hands to yourself next time.” I said politely as I started to turn around.

“I can show you around if you like? Consider me your tour guide!” He said hooking his arm through mine. “Right this way madam.”

A little unsure of this guy I hesitated, but then gave in with a sigh. I guess it could be worse… I could be stuck touring the campus with plastic Barbie. We walked down the side walk to the warehouse type structure. The warehouse was gray, and three stories high. It looked very out of place sitting behind the mansion. I unhooked my arm from Alex’s to walk through the door. Inside was a body builders dream. There was exercise equipment of every kind sitting around on the concrete floor. Treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes lined the right glass wall. The center of the gymnasium held a red, and black boxing ring. Punching bags hung behind the ring. It was amazing. I’ve always secretly dreamed of learning to box. I’ve never done it before, but I think it would be satisfying to punch someone, or a something.

“As you can see this is our gym. We have certain body tactical classes out here. It’s also open 24/7 for students to practice, and exercise.” Alex said as we walked through the gym toward a set of metal stairs.

We climbed the stairs to the second floor. I was getting excited. The second floor was definitely not anything I would have expected. Most of the floor was covered with spongy black rubber shavings. There were small wall panels placed sporadically around the room. Some of the panels had ropes hanging from them, and blue oil barrels sitting around them. Too me it almost looked like a extreme laser tag course.

“This is one of the special tactical class rooms. We use this to learn hand to hand combat strategies, and weapon wielding.” Alex said flicking a switch on the side of the wall. The whole wall disappeared into the ceiling. Lighted cases lined the inside. Each case held weapons of every kind. There was everything from nunchucks to katunas in the case. This place was basically a ninja’s wet dream. Alex pressed the button again and the wall receded. We finally reached the third, and final floor. This floor was anticlimactic compared to the other two. It was basically set up as a large lecture hall with a projector and professor desk at the front of the room.
