Chapter Nineteen

C A L E B

Slow.

I could do slow.

Reminiscing that night in Ashley's room, her agreeing to trying make us work again sends a good rush in my chest.

I smiled at the memory. Kissing her numerous times that night felt good. It felt like as if we were just on pause because of some complication, and now we're back. I have her back.

Not technically, but I'm working on it. I'll do anything to make it work. This proves just how much I want to make things right with her again.

Also that same night, I found Liam in our apartment in a pissed off mood. I get that Ashley ended something between that could've worked, but I didn't think that it would affect him that much.

Even today at practice, Coach had to bench him because of his pissy mood. I was getting a drink by the coolers when Coach grabbed me by the shoulder.

"Talk some sense into that teammate of yours of I'm putting him out of the game." I watched Liam rest his arms on his knees as he takes deep breaths. He doesn't have the best self-control and adding football practice into his mood would only ruin his play.

Since Coach cut practice short even though when it shouldn't be, I walked over to Liam while the other guys headed for the showers. I sat beside him and laid my helmet on my side.

"What's crawling up your ass the past few days?" I handed him a cup of water. When Liam took it from my hands, he finished it in one gulp.

"It's been messing with me, man." He explained. "I mean, Ashley just ended things with me and she's protecting some guy. I'm itching to know who the fucker is."

"Did she say exactly that she wanted to end things?"

"It was strongly implied, but I left her alone before she could explain herself." Liam stood up. "I just couldn't think straight when I heard her say it. No one's ever done that to me. I'm usually the one who breaks things up."

My fist clenched at my sides. So he plans to break up with her even back then?

"What if I stayed then, would things have been different?" He asked. "Should I have listened?"

"Listen," I began. "If she ended things with you as you say, then just look for someone else. You can get anyone in campus. Why settle for someone you can't get easily?" I may sound like a total asshole right now, but I want Liam to think about what I'm saying so he could give up on Ashley.

I might be selfish about wanting Ashley to myself, but Liam's not exactly the good guy either. There was a reason why we were roomed together and it was because we were the same. Until Liam crossed the boundary, until he did things way worse than me, until I saw him for he truly is.
