[Joey, Avery's father, Avery, and Isaiah in multimedia]
"Excuse me, I don't mean to bother but please tell your father that if he insists on having company tell them to park on his property and not mines." Tabatha said, her husband Lucas standing beside her with a firm look on her face.
They were the oldest couple in the community and a pain in the ass according to Isaiah. Avery knew little of them so she couldn't judge but from what she's heard from both Joey and Isaiah they were the annoying white couple that made it their mission to get on their neighbors last nerve. Hence why she only stared at them with a slight mug on her face before turning to unlock the door.
"See Lucas she's just like them!" Tabatha whined. "Don't worry they won't be rude when I call the police the next time on them. I know they aren't the cleanest people out here, something it going on in there."
Avery laughed. "With all due respect ma'am mind your damn business. What we do in this house that my father pays every month with his hard earned money doesn't concern you."
Without giving her the chance to respond and leaving both her and her husband in shock, Avery entered the house and slammed the door behind her. She removed the hood that sat on her head and placed her keys on the table that sat near the door.
With each step she took she scanned the house. Isaiah wasn't the messiest so the fact that the house was in good shape didn't surprise her. That of course changed the moment the sound of barking attracted her attention, following it towards the back near the pool house.
"Since when did he get a dog?" She asked, making her way to the pit bull that stood at attention barking louder. "Calm down little fella, I ain't gonna hurt you."
When it calmed down, Avery squatted down to its level and placed her hand on it, rubbing his head and behind its ears and it held its paws up. With a smile on her face, she picked it up and continued to rub on it as she made her way back into the house.
"What's your name?" Avery giggled when it licked her cheek as she searched for the tag on the collar; it read Nina. "Beautiful name for a beautiful dog."
Nina whimpered and rubbed its head on her shoulder. With her in her arms, Avery entered the first guest room which was across the hall from the bathroom upstairs. As expected it seemed as if anyone hasn't been here in years, being that it was hers once upon a time.
She placed Nina down at her feet as she opened the closet door. Aside from some clothes that still resided in there, there were boxes in the far back of the walk in closet stacked up on each other against the wall.
Nina followed inside behind Avery. She unstacked the boxes and one by one she opened them, starting with the first that was at the bottom of the stack. Inside is where the VHS player was, but something caught her eye.
