Chapter 21
Lunette and Jared kept trying to call me, but I didn't want to answer. I gave them their warning. They were going to be playing a dangerous game trying to mess with all seven of us, and if they were calling to try to 'explain' anything, then it only proved how idiotic they were.
I was still feeling a bit nervous about leaving, though I had no idea why. They couldn't really do anything about it.
It wasn't until we were on the ferry that I started relaxing a bit.
"So, I've been thinking," Abby said while we were all sitting together after the ferry started moving. "Juliet, remember how you heard Jared and Lunette say something about how the serum isn't working on Cam?" I nodded. "I think I might now what it would be about."
"To weaken your abilities, right?" Rory asked.
"Right," Abby said. "You thought about that too."
"Yeah, that was the first thing that came to my mind when Juliet told me and Cam," Rory said. "It was the only logical explanation on what the serum is or is doing. After all, they also said that Cam is too powerful, so it's obviously not working on him."
"Well, it's working on us," Abby said. "I've barely been able to use my powers without feeling drained. That's why I've only been using my potions when you guys need help with something. Normally, I could do all of that without potions, but I never had the energy after we moved into the house. I didn't even think about it though."
"Yeah, and I haven't been able to use my abilities," Avery said. "It really sucks because I can normally use charms on people, or even shrink down and fly around, but I can't. I was even going to use a good luck charm on myself for all the quizzes and tests I had at school. Oh my gosh, what are we going to do about school?! We're just leaving and not going back."
"Who cares about school?" Cam asked. "It's overrated."
"Easy for you to say, Mr. I've Been Released From School Ten Times," Marshal said.
"Five," Cam corrected. "Seriously, it's almost the end of the year anyway. And I'd rather not go to school than have my life be in danger."
And speaking of danger, my cell phone rang yet again. "They won't stop calling me," I said. "Should I answer?"
"I say you should," Rory said. "See what they have to say. Oh, and put it on speaker so we can hear."
I hesitated before accepting the call, then putting it on speaker. Nobody was sitting close to us anyway to eavesdrop on the conversation and wonder what was going on. "Hello, this is Juliet speaking," I said. "May I ask who's calling?"
"This isn't a joke, Juliet," Lunette said. "We've been trying to call you."
"Oh, I did not know that," I said sarcastically. "Is that why my cell phone has been ringing constantly?"
"If you want what's best for you, you'll come home right now," Lunette said.
"Home?" I asked. "You mean the place where I was forced to live after being taken from my real family? No thanks. I told you, you can try to come find us, but you're going to be playing a dangerous game messing with the seven of us."
"Oh, please," Lunette said after a scoff. "Dangerous? Five of you can't even control your abilities properly."
Rory and Abby were right. That was exactly what the serum was for; to weaken our abilities.
