Chapter 19

I couldn't sleep at all. For one thing, my head was hurting a whole lot, and for another I was afraid we really were in danger. Everything was starting to be way too suspicious and there was no way all of this could be one coincidence.

I was laying in bed for a long time, just staring up at the ceiling before looking over at the clock on my nightstand. One in the morning.

I was a bit thirsty, so I reached for my water bottle, only to find most of it was empty. I sighed and pulled myself out of bed before heading out of my bedroom, quietly closing the door behind me. I was about to head into the washroom, but I heard muttering voices coming from downstairs. I hesitated for a bit before setting my water bottle on the washroom counter before carefully making my way down the stairs.

My 'parents' were talking in the kitchen, so I hid behind the wall to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Look, I think it will be best if we transfer him as soon as we can," Mom said. "He's getting way too powerful."

"Yes, but he's been getting along fine here," Dad said. "What are we going to tell everyone when we transfer him? That we couldn't handle it anymore? Everyone will start getting suspicious, especially Juliet."

It didn't take me long to figure out exactly who they were talking about. Cam.

"Okay, so we just let him live here where we can't do anything to stop it?" Mom asked. "The serum isn't working on him, and it is one everyone else."

       Serum?

"Okay, here's what we'll do," Dad said. "We have a meeting with the head of the facility at noon, so we'll ask him what we can do."

"Alright, fine, but he has to be transferred soon," Mom said. "Before he gets way too strong."

"Well, speaking of, are you sure it's fine letting Rory stay here?" Dad asked. "Everyone can find out the truth."

Mom scoffed. "Rory isn't just going to randomly say 'Hey, my twin sister was taken when we were one. Any of you know her?' He probably doesn't want to talk about it at all."

Hearing these two people talk about this was making me fume. I thought they were my parents. They treated me like I was their daughter, and they took me from my real family; from my real parents and my twin brother. Did they not know who devastating that would be for someone?

"Yeah, I guess you're right. So, I guess we have a plan. Talk to the head of the facility about Cam at noon, and see what we could do about him."

       "Alright."

I quietly made my way back upstairs before they could leave the kitchen. I didn't know if their conversation was over, but I did not want to get caught listening to them.

Instead of going back to my bedroom, I softly knocked on Cam's bedroom door, hoping it was loud enough for him to hear, but not loud enough that anyone else did.

Luckily, Cam did hear it. I heard him stirring around the bed before the door opened. I quickly got in and closed the door behind me. "Is everything okay?" Cam asked.

Rory was awake too, and he sat up on the mattress he was sitting on. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"We really are in danger," I said. "I left my bedroom to get a drink of water, and I heard....Lunette and Jared talking downstairs." I couldn't even refer to them as my parents know, because they sure as hell weren't. "So, I went to eavesdrop. I don't know exactly what's happening, but they were planning on transferring you somewhere, Cam."
