Midnight's POV

When I regained consciousness, the last thing I remembered was Adrian giving me a kiss on the forehead.

I looked at my surroundings and realized that I was definitely underwater.
I felt a throbbing in my side and a part of my tail was bandaged.

I was about to get upwhen Adrian walked in. "don't even think about it"
He said without looking up at me.

I slumped back down on the bed, pain still throbbing in my side.
Adrian was staring at me and I stared back at him.

"why did you come down here? "
He said not looking at me.

I didn't even get to answer him as just the the wall behind me exploded.
Adrian pulled me off the the bed and
shielded me from the debris.

"you didn't have to-"
I was cut off by another another kiss on my lips .
"shhhh​, darling we need to get out of here and evacuate the rest of the mer people."
He said.

We swam as fast as our tails could carry us, rushing through the halls telling everyone to go to the emergency area.

" Let's split up" I say .
And Adrian gave me a look like I just killed a baby.

"no! "
was all he simply said and we continued relaying the news.
After every few stops, the place would shake with another explosion.
Which really threw me off.

What is up with him?
He's not normally like this.

After we informed the last person on the hall,a hammer head shark came in and it had red eyes which made me know that it wasn't itself.

Adrian gave me "that look",
After that ,we both hit turboswim and headed to the the exit.

The shark chased us until Adrian looked like he couldn't take it anymore.
"midnight !"
He shouted over the explosions .

"yeah"
I shouted back.

"I need you go with the rest of the people "

" but Adrian , I'm not going to leave you out here"
I didn't realize that we had slowed down and the shark was coming closer to us.

"babe , just listen to me it's dangerous out here for you I really need you to get to safety."

He swam out further away from me with the shark trailing him.

"go !"
He said.

I dared not look back and swam as fast I could as tears stung the back of my eyes.
I know he wants me be safe but sometimes I worry about him .

I wonder if his father is behind all this,
after all, he mentions so little about him.

A high pitched scream startled me out of my thoughts.
It sounded like a small child...
