JULY CAME AND IT WAS the Nutrition Month Celebration. As expected, Sabrina became busy. Student Council duties often pulled her out of the class together with the other leaders. Karissa also gathered the dance troupe members because we have an intermission number. It's against my will but what can I do? It's my responsibility as part of the club. Plus, it'll be a good reason for me to go home late.
"Sorry, I'm late." Speaking of being late, as if on cue, all of our heads turned to the doorway where Sabrina's voice came from. Magiliw siyang pumasok sa loob, not caring about the wondering eyes that follow.
"Very late to the point na hindi ka nakasali sa first and second session ng practice," Karissa said. The whole room went quiet. Ang ibang nagpa-practice sa gilid ay napahinto. Lahat ng atensyon ngayon ay nasa dalawa.
"If you're going to be late anyways, why don't just be super late," Sab retaliated. "Kidding! Better late than never. I'm already busy sa Student Council. But still, here I am trying to find a way to join the dance troupe. Ah, I feel sorry for myself." She fixed her hair into a bun as she walked to the corner to place her bag down. Everyone still has their eyes on her and when she felt those stares, she chuckled. "Come one, guys! Let's not waste our time. Huwag ako ang tignan niyo." Then she shifted her eyes to Karissa. "Right, our beloved Club President?"
"Start na tayo." Karissa chose to back down para hindi na lumaki ang tensyon. Huminga siya ng malalim na tila pinapakalma ang sarili. Ever since I can remember, they already had tension between them. The reason is still a mystery. Not once did they had a cat fight though. Puro parinigan lang.
Pagkatapos din ng practice ay sinundo ni Lemuel si Sabrina na kanina pa pala naghihintay sa labas. I heard him say it to Sabrina. It wasn't eavesdropping, their voices were just loud enough to know what they were talking.
"Hi, babe!" Oh, I almost forgot. They became official not so long ago. I don't know what exactly happened and I don't plan on knowing. I don't trust Lemuel and I don't like him for Sabrina. But I couldn't do anything except give him a glare which he couldn't even see from here. Sabrina might get upset if I told her my 'accusations' of Lemuel, lalo na ngayon na sila na.
It's hard to understand that out of all the guys in this school, Sabrina is head over heels for Lemuel.
"Sheena, Aubri," Karissa called us. "Let's plan para sa sayaw nating tatlo." Nagkatinginan kami ni Sheena. Dance? Just the three of us?
"We are the most active member here kaya naisipan kong magpakitang-gilas tayo." She looked at me. "Hindi natin masisigurado kung makakasali pa ba tayo ng dance troupe next school year dahil road to senior high na tayo. So" —she faced Sheena and tapped her shoulder— "sa pamamagitan ng performance na 'to, maipapaalam ko sa kanila na ikaw, Sheena, ang susunod sa yapak ko. Ikaw ang magpapatuloy at mag-aalaga sa dance club."
I want to back out on the performance because Sabrina's the deserving one. She's better than me in every aspect. She's the better dancer. This was unnecessary but I know why Karissa's doing this. She wants to get even with Sabrina.
Yeah, it's petty.

"PAANO KUNG GUSTONG-GUSTO mo yung tao pero ayaw ng lahat sa kaniya?" Sheena sat on the floor. We had just finished arranging the chairs to the side to allow us a wide space in the center. Karissa went out to buy us juice.
"Is it about Jay?" I tried guessing. Sumagi lang siya sa isip ko dahil sa nalalaman. I know they like each other but they never seem to be official. Not now, for at least. Sheena's a year younger than us.
The side of her lips rose and I nodded to myself for guessing it right. Jay is the problem himself kaya hindi na nakakapagtaka na mamomroblema lahat ng taong mauugnay sa kaniya. I heard he's messing around with Shaneila these days. He'll only give her a headache. Paano kaya siya natatagalan ni Sheena?
