THE NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION came and there was a by-section jingle contest about the current theme.
After that, students who were competing in different categories were all busy preparing themselves, most especially Sabrina. She double-checked the tools she would be using for the poster-making. Section 1 chose her as the representative. She excels at arts so there's no surprise that everyone voted for her. Lagi naman eh, every school year, like she's auto-voted.
Our job is to be present as her support system.
When it was announced through the microphone, we never left her side until she reached the designated classroom. Participants for the poster-making were already outside with their materials, anxiously waiting for the cue. Sabrina, on the other hand, looked relaxed and confident. But as a friend, I whispered to her my good luck and encouragement.
"Thanks. Mwah!" She blew me a flying kiss and went inside.
All of us decided to wait for her outside kahit na ayaw ni Shaneila ang maghintay ng matagal. We all agreed that it's better if we're the first people that Sabrina sees when she comes out. Thankfully, Annette was there to entertain us with her corny jokes and random stories so we hardly noticed the time.
"Ano? I couldn't read her expression since she looked normal.
"Not really. Na-practice ko naman na sa bahay."
We stayed in the classroom while waiting for the results. Almost all classrooms are open kaya naka off lahat ng aircon at kahit sino ay pwedeng pumasok kaya hindi na nakakagulat na tuloy-tuloy ang pagpasok ni Andrei sa classroom namin. He's wearing a tucked-in gray plain t-shirt with jeans on and a pair of black high-cut sneakers. His hair was a bit disheveled but it still suits him anyway.
"Oh I forgot! Birthday mo pala ngayon." "It's not my favorite thing to eat pero thank you pa rin. Happy birthday, Andrei."
Maybe she already greeted him.
"Happy birthday," I greeted him sincerely and he smiled the widest like a happy kid compared to earlier.
"Seriously, this lang? Pancit Canton?" Shaneila frowned as she took a slurp of it. "You're so cheap, couz."
"At least, may libre. Diba Andrei?" Sabrina giggled and tucked strands of her hair behind her ear.
"Wow!
"Duh. I didn't say na I wouldn't eat this."
I checked the time on my phone and thank heavens I'm not yet late. I can still arrive on time if I walk faster.
