"NAG-AARAL KA O NAKATUNGANGA sa mukha ni Andrei?"
Boses ni Vicky ang nakapagpabalik sa akin sa sarili. She and Andrei were both staring back at me with accusing eyes. I glared at them but they were too used to me by now to be fazed that Andrei was even trying to suppress a smile.
"Alam kong sobrang gwapo ko pero kung nadi-distract ka, pwede naman akong lumipat," he teased, his grin was annoyingly charming.
It's exams week and I haven't had any lessons stuck in my brain. Alam kong dapat ko munang kalimutan ang nararamdaman ni Sabrina kay Andrei. And my feelings too! But it wasn't that simple.
I couldn't believe I'd join the martyr club soon.
I have lost count of the times I've second-guessed my decision. Laging nagtatalo ang puso't isip ko. Ganito ba talaga 'to?
"Oo, mabuti pa nga umalis ka muna. Shoo, shoo." Vicky gave Andrei a playful shove, pushing him off balance. He stumbled, nearly falling off his chair.
"Pakyu," Andrei mouthed while raising his middle finger.
Vicky clamped a hand over her mouth to suppress her laughter before people inside this place kill her with their eyes.
We were in the student lounge, tucked into the corner near the aircon. The teachers and staff were still in a meeting, so we had a rare stretch of free time. They said we could all go out, just not outside the campus. So here we are...
It was all Andrei's idea since he claimed it's for "my sake" and Vicky was quick to jump in, though I wasn't sure what benefit there was in sitting here, overthinking my life choices while the two of them got to leverage the time to open their notes.
"Tori, inaaway ako." Andrei walked to me and clung on my arm. "Nakakasakit ng puso."
I almost rolled my eyes. "You're being dramatic."
"Baka naman ikaw ang nagpapatibok nito?" He winked and I felt the heat creep up my cheeks.
"Sabi mo pwede ka naman lumipat? Tapos ngayong pinapaalis na kita ayaw mo," Vicky intervened, tugging at his arm and yanking him away from me.
"Paalisin mo ako?" Turo ni Andrei sa sarili. "Core kaya ako ng grupo. 'Di kayo makakapag-aral ng maayos 'pag wala ako."
"Core daw," Vicky muttered. Then, as if a light bulb went off, she smirked. "Oy, Andrei. Hindi ba sabi mo kanina gusto mong mag-snacks? Gutom ka na, 'di ba?"
"Sinabi ko 'yon?" Napakurap ng mata si Andrei.
"Oo sinabi mo!" Vicky said quickly, sitting up straighter. There was a glint in her suspicious eyes. "And Aubri and I need something sweet for brain fuel. Tama, Aubri?"
"Uh... Yeah, I guess," I mumbled, still trying to understand what she was up to.
"Perfect!" Vicky clapped her hands. "Ikaw na bumili. Gentleman ka, 'di ba?"
Andrei's eyes narrowed, clearly sensing a trap. But he stood up anyway, fishing his wallet out of his pocket. "Fine. Anong gusto niyo?"
Vicky rattled off an overly complicated list of snacks and drinks, each one more ridiculous than the last. By the time she finished, Andrei looked like he was deeply regretting his life choices.
"Bakit parang para sa buong klase ang pinapabili mo?"
"Just go. And bilisan mo, baka maubusan ka." She shooed him with her hands.
Andrei muttered something about bossy friends but eventually gave in, walking off while shaking his head.
The second he disappeared around the corner, Vicky turned to me. "You've been staring off into space for the past ten minutes. Hindi ako naniniwalang nagme-memorize ka ng lessons."
