"Ms. Hamid, you have a phone call," Ciara, the secretary said.
"Right, I'm coming," I replied.
I was at work, and I wondered who was calling me, and why they hadn't called me on my personal phone. I pulled out my phone to check if I had any missed calls, but it was switched off. No wonder they called on the company phone.
I followed Ciara out of my cabin and went to the reception, and picked up the phone.
"Hello?" I said into the mouthpiece.
"Aliyah? It's your dad. Your mum and I are in my office right now, can you come over? We need to discuss important things with you," dad said.
"Oh, sure. But it's nothing bad is it?" I asked, suddenly feeling scared.
I heard dad laugh on the other end. "No, princess. We just need to discuss your wedding plans. There's stuff we had decided last night, and we need to inform you," he said.
I sighed in relief. "Okay, I'll be there," I replied.
I put the phone down and turned to Ciara.
"Ciara, could you please get someone to hold my spot for me for a while? There's something I need to get done," I said.
"Yeah, that's alright, Ms. Hamid, but how long are you going for?" Ciara asked.
"About an hour and a half, tops," I said.
"No problem. You can go," Ciara replied.
"Thanks," I said, and left the building. I got into my car and drove to dad's company.
Once I was there, the receptionist Khadijah greeted me, and I took the elevator to dad's office. I entered inside and I saw mum and dad deep in discussion.
"Assalamualaykum, mum, dad," I said, as I walked over to one of the comfy looking chairs in dad's massive office.
I loved dad's office. It was on the 22nd floor, and since dad was the CEO and the one of the three brothers who founded this company, dad's office was absolutely massive. From the glass wall, one could see the view of nearly the entire town. It was breathtaking.
"Wa'alaykumsalaam," they both replied simultaneously.
"So, why am I here?" I asked.
"We wanted to inform you and get your approval on what was discussed yesterday," dad said.
"Yeah, okay," I answered.
"So, Aliyah, you already know that Farshad stays in a whole different country from us, yeah?" Mum asked.
"Of course, mum," I replied.
"Yeah, so well, we'll have to fly over in a week's time to their country for your engagement. It was a mutual decision. The good thing about Mrs. Abdul Swamad is that she is not enforcing any decision on us the way the Rafiqs did," mum said.
"Oh, okay. I don't mind going there. So I'll get engaged in their country, at their home?" I asked.
"Yes. And we also mutually agreed to keep the engagement simple, the way you would want it," dad added.
"Great, Alhamdulillah," I said.
"And then, we have your wedding. Now, Farshad is still studying, he's not yet done with his PhD. He has 7, well slightly above 6 months left to finish his degree. So we agreed that we'll keep the wedding after he receives his degree," dad said.
"Fine by me," I said.
"And yeah, Umniyah and Farshad's wedding will be on the same day, so you'll get married together with your best friend!" Mum added.
