These trainers have a very strong rivalry, with Blue always taunting Red and being one step ahead of him. Oak gave each boy a Pokédex to complete and they decided to take on the Kanto gyms and league in the process. In Pokémon Origins there are a few times that Blue becomes flustered because of his friend, and all he wants is to be able to beat him in a battle again after his defeat at the league. When Blue sees a ghost after running ahead of Red in the Pokémon Tower he flies back down the stairs in fear and Red catches him in a hug. Blue tells him that they need to leave, but when Red stays to find out the truth about the ghost Blue sticks with him. Red also runs in to see Blue the second after he learns that he has been injured while trying to catch a wild Pokémon. 10/10.
In Sun and Moon the duo return as bosses at the Battle Tree, on much friendlier terms than when they were kids.
