May and Brendan are rivals and don't get along super well at first in RSE, but they warm up to each other quickly. They give advice to one another and Brendan offers compliments to May in the form of telling her that she's not so bad when she defeats him in battle. In ORAS, when the two first meet Brendan or May will offer to catch the other a wild Pokémon. They decide to directly travel together on multiple occasions just for fun, and they also meet up after one of them becomes the new champion because it only makes sense to finish their journey together because they started together. Both ride their bikes home and stop at the pond they first battled at to see shooting stars and heart shaped constellations together. There's been plenty of occasions where they stutter while talking or get flustered. They get tickets to see a meteor shower from their parents, and it's implied to be a date. The parents of both trainers discuss how important the other has been to their kid and that they constantly talk about them.
